Microsoft Advise Against Use of Advanced Format Drives With Windows Home Server

Back in January, we discussed Western Digital’s new Advanced Format Drives, which WGS readers were finding caused performance and incompatibility issues on Windows Home Server v1. At the time we advised against using these drives and selecting a standard drive instead.This week, Microsoft issued an advisory note which backed that advice.

New Advanced Format hard disk technology is supported on new operating systems, as well as older systems courtesy of a Western Digital utility.... which is blocked for installation on Windows Home Server. WGS Forum users are attenpting to tackle the issue, but for now, be careful about using new Western Digital Green drives.
