Hy-Fi blends the advantages of Wi-Fi and PLC Homeplug technologies into a single device so when in the living room with your HD TV streaming the football game through your Set Top box, your son can also be playing his favorite video game, also using a stable powerline connection.

The Hy-Fi router aggregates the wireless and powerline connections, giving you not just more bandwidth, but more reliable bandwidth, with applications balanced over the two connections automatically, ensuring an interruption-free experience, particularly with latency-sensitive applications. So, if the football game leaves the game console with too little bandwidth, the Hy-Fi router will automatically connect it to a wireless connection, leaving your PLC connected Set Top box with enough bandwidth to seat you through to the end of the game and your son climbing the leader boards unhindered.

The Hy-Fi router uses two unique features to channel traffic over the network. Intelligent Path Selection allows the router to choose the best available interface through which to transmit data, based upon connected client device requirements. At the same time, Path Switching allows the router to re-assign traffic to the other connection if it experiences link degradation, without the user noticing the change has ever occurred.

Expanding a wireless network also becomes easier with Hy-Fi by using the PLC network to transfer data to a difficult to reach area of a home or office and simply plugging in a Wi-Fi PLC to connect to the network and expand it wirelessly from there.

TP-LINK Hy-Fi Router – Pricing to be announced – Product Available Q4 2012

Selectable 2.4GHz and 5GHz dual band

300Mbps wireless 802.11n

500Mbps PLC connections

Intelligent connection selection

Path Switching

A sample set of Hy-Fi routers is on display at:

2012 International CES, January 10–13, 2012, in Las Vegas at Booth #36212 South Hall

Topology and flyer available here: ftp://tplink:wr641g@ftp.tp-link.com/temp/TP-LINK Hy-Fi.rar

TP-Link products are available at Fry’s Electronics, Micro Center, B&H and Data Vision. Not iCloud, Okay?" alt="clearfi 1024x576 CES 2012:Acer Apes Apple With AcerCloud. Not iCloud, Okay?" />

At CES, the year of the Cloud service continues, this time with Acer whose AcerCloud file-synchronisation service will ship with new PCs and Android devices in Quarter 2 2012. Just don’t mention iCloud, okay?

The company’s Cloud service allows remote users to connect and wake up their Acer PCs at any time (as long as the PC is in Standby or Hibernation mode) to retrieve files and stream media. That’s perhaps the one original feature that differentiated AcerCloud from Apple’s iCloud service.

Otherwise, AcerCloud apes Cupertino’s offering, with the automatic synchronisation of files, photos (called PicStream, not Photo Stream) and media, allowing users to purchase a movie on their PC and view it on their Acer SmartPhone. Files are available for 30 days before they’ll need to be downloaded to “long-term storage”.

Remote media streaming will be delivered courtesy of Acer’s clear.fi in the Cloud (not iTunes in the Cloud, okay?) which can push media directly to mobile devices, or allow content to be downloaded.

New Acer PCs and Android smartphones will be supported on AcerCloud from Q2 2012, whilst Windows Phones are set to join in later in the year.

Show Press ReleaseHide Press Release

AcerCloud Connects All Personal Devices Securely for Anytime, Anywhere Access to Digital Media and Data

Intelligent connectivity and storage — in a personal cloud space

LAS VEGAS, USA (January 8, 2012) — Acer today previewed its upcoming AcerCloud, which securely connects all personal smart devices for anytime, anywhere access. Featuring Acer Always Connect technology, users can retrieve multimedia and data files anytime, even when their main PC is in sleep (standby/hibernation) mode. Users can enjoy these advantages knowing that their information is stored and transferred securely via strong encryption and authentication. Bringing users tremendous functionality and value, Acer will include the AcerCloud, without additional cost, on all new Acer consumer PCs.

Acer reduces the complexities of today’s fast-paced lifestyles by developing solutions that enable devices to communicate, simplifying the process of content sharing. With the ever-growing number of smart digital devices, users need to share and back up their multimedia and data files in a simple, smart way.

Create, acquire and consume on different devices

AcerCloud makes it easy to take photos on a smartphone while on the go, and then view them on a main PC at home or in the office, without the delay and complication of manually transferring files. It also allows users to purchase a movie from an all-in-one PC, and then watch it on a tablet or smartphone on a train or airplane. As long as the main PC is in sleep (standby/hibernation) mode, Acer Always Connect technology can wake it up through Wi-Fi® so media can be retrieved via a mobile device. AcerCloud, meanwhile, intelligently uses local and cloud storage together so all data is always available. Other features of AcerCloud include:

PicStream

Through PicStream, users can take holiday snapshots on their smartphone, back them up on the main PC, and share them efficiently with other smart devices. Users can stream photos via clear.fi in the Cloud to PCs and other devices; photos are backed up permanently on their PC, and temporarily accessible for 30 days in their personal cloud and on other devices.

AcerCloud Docs

Professionals can update sales documents on a PC and save them, and the documents will be put into the personal cloud and streamed to other devices. They can then go to their meeting with their notebook or tablet PC and have immediate access to all the updated files. The files will be temporarily accessible for 30 days in the personal cloud and on the devices, or they can choose to download the files on to other devices for long-term storage.

clear.fi Media

With Acer’s unique clear.fi Media application, users can also access all their multimedia at any time. They can use clear.fi to connect to the personal cloud and stream live, or download and enjoy content offline for convenient on-the-go entertainment.

Acer Inc. President Jim Wong stated, “AcerCloud not only provides the simplicity and efficiency when accessing and sharing data, but it’s also free with a new Acer PC and gives our users peace-of-mind, knowing that their data is safely transferred in a personal cloud space.”

AcerCloud will be bundled on all Acer consumer PCs starting Q2 2012. It will support all Android devices, while future support is planned for Windows-based devices. With Belkin’s exclusive MultiBeam technology, the N900 creates a robust, blazing-fast network that supports an entire household of Wi-Fi devices and media-intensive activities like online gaming and 3D video streaming. The N900 will debut at CES Unveiled on January 8, 2012, and be on display at the Belkin booth #30651 in the South Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center during the 2012 International CES.

Featuring dual-band combined speeds of up to 900 megabits per second, the Advance N900 delivers maximum data speeds on both the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands simultaneously. Built for high speeds, the N900 uses the IEEE 3×3 standard to transmit data on three streams, which gives 50 percent better throughput. Additionally, Belkin’s exclusive MultiBeam technology delivers a high-powered signal that allows for higher and more consistent network speeds and minimizes the number of wireless dead spots. With 6 embedded MultiBeam antennas, the N900 enables optimized video streaming from multiple devices, throughout the whole home.

Though the Advance N900’s speed and range set the benchmark for the router’s performance, other features of the router combine to create the ultimate wireless home networking experience for laptops, tablets, smartphones and AV devices. IntelliStream quality of service (QoS) automatically prioritizes video and gaming streams to eliminate buffering for uninterrupted streaming, and a 600MHz multi-thread processor enables high-bandwidth multitasking across all devices on the network. The Advance N900 also includes two high-speed USB 2.0 ports for ultra-fast access to attached network storage or wireless printing, and gigabit wirespeed routing for downloading at gigabit speeds and streaming from multiple devices simultaneously. Furthermore, a hardware-based Network Address Translation is implemented in the core chipsets to enable lightning-fast NAT speeds (up to 900+ Mbps) and the ability to route at these speeds—without compromising the performance of the rest of your home network.

The Advance N900 is a snap to install with Belkin’s Easy Setup, a simple process for getting the router out of the box and online in three easy steps, and also comes with pre-configured encryption settings for built-in wireless security.

“An advanced wireless router like the Advance N900 is the backbone of the always-connected lifestyle brought on by the proliferation of the tablet and smartphone ecosystem and the explosion in streaming content,” said Mike Chen, Belkin’s Senior Director of Networking. “With faster speeds, greater range, and more powerful performance, the N900 opens the door for an entirely new way of thinking about the home network, one that enables richer media and entertainment experiences for the whole family, across the whole home.”

AVAILABILITY

The Belkin Advance N900 DB Wireless Dual-Band N+ Router will be available for pre-sale on Amazon.com in January and at other U.S. retailers in April.

Belkin Advance N900 DB Wireless Dual-Band N+ Router (F9K1104) – $199.99

Dual-band technology with simultaneous wireless speeds of up to 450Mbps (2.4GHz) + 450Mbps (5GHz)

Exclusive MultiBeam antenna technology for high-powered wireless signal and maximum throughput

600MHz multi-thread processor to power through media-intensive multitasking

Two high-speed USB 2.0 ports for fast access to network storage or wireless printing

Download at gigabit speeds and stream from multiple devices at the same time

IntelliStream QoS prioritizes video and gaming streams

4 gigabit ports for ultra-fast wired connections

Guest network access for enhanced security

Self-healing feature automatically resolves potential network problems

Easy setup and pre-configured security

CES 2012: TRENDnet Unveils Next Generation 1.3 Gbps 802.11ac Network Devices

Networking

News

802.11ac

CES

high speed

media bridge

router

TRENDnet

wi-fi

wireless

At CES 2012, Wi-Fi networking is set to receive a speed boost with vendors showing off the latest 802.11ac networking devices. Yes, it’s soon time to replace all of your Wi-Fi kit again. TRENDnet are one such manufacturer, coming out of the blocks in Las Vegas with a new 1.3 Gbps Wireless Router and Media Bridge.

802.11ac is a new wireless standard, currently under development and set for ratification in late 2012 and final approval in early 2013. That won’t stop the networking guys bringing out devices that work with the new technology, however, as those of you who remember the swathe of “Pre-N” devices that hit the market will testify.

TRENDnet are showing off two 802.11ac devices in Las Vegas this week, the next generation 1300 Mbps Dual Band Wireless AC Router, model TEW-811DR, and 1300 Mbps Dual Band Wireless AC Media Bridge, model TEW-800MB.

The 1300 Mbps Dual Band Wireless AC Router is a concurrent dual band router with a 450 Mbps wireless n band to network everyday mobile devices and laptops and an ultra high performance 1300 Mbps wireless band. Gigabit Ethernet and Wi-Fi Protected Setup are on board, as you’d expect. It ships in late 2012 at a price of over $200.

Meanwhile, TRENDnet’s 1300 Mbps Wireless AC Media Bridge had four media devices to your network, providing Gigabit wireless speeds for media streaming and gaming. Expect to see that device for around $200 also at the end of the year. Time to get saving…

SuperSpeed USB 3.0 @ CES 2011

News

Blackmagicdesing

CES

ces 2011

DisplayLink

USB-IF

Companies are using USB 3.0 for just about anything I/O anymore. I can certainly see a time when other I/O standards fall by the wayside.

<p style="float:right; With speeds of up to 450Mbps and simultaneous dual-band capabilities, you can now play music, games and HD videos as well as share photos from anywhere in your home or office without worrying about drops in wireless connection.

450Mbps Simultaneous Dual Band Wireless Gigabit Router (TL-WR2843ND) – $129.99 – available May 2011

Simultaneous dual band is the best weapon to avoiding interference on your wireless network. Because so many devices in the home—such as cordless phones, Bluetooth devices, and don’t forget your neighbors’ wireless routers—operate on the 2.4GHz band, the likelihood of your Wi-Fi network slowing down is high. However, with the additional 5GHz band on the 450Mbps Dual Band Wireless Router, you gain access to an entire band of free channels to transmit data. For example, you can use the 2.4GHz band to browse the Web while at the same time use the 5GHz band to stream HD videos.

The TP-LINK 450Mbps Dual Band Wireless Router offers a USB Share Port to attach an external hard drive or other USB storage device for sharing and backing up files. Adding a new device to your network is simple with its Wi-Fi Protected Setup Button. Just press a button and your wireless device will automatically receive your network security information and securely configure itself.

The 450Mbps Simultaneous Dual Band Wireless Gigabit Router is on display at:

2011 International CES, January 6–9, 2011, in Las Vegas at Booth #31569 South Hall

ShowStoppers media event, January 6, 2011, in Las Vegas at The Wynn Hotel

“With more and more people using media-intensive applications online, it becomes even more critical to ensure a reliable wireless experience,” said Richard Xu, General Manager of TP-LINK USA. “Streaming HD content, gaming online, and even sharing photos require the best possible wireless connection. That’s not surprising, given Microsoft indicated last month that there would be an update on new hardware at the show.

“Let me completely confirm we are 100% committed to Vail, and continue to work on all the core features outside of Drive Extender. We fully expect to be able to show some of our new and partnered OEM solutions at CES.”

Unfortunately, that update failed to materialise, as indeed did any real presence for Windows Home Server at CES. For a consumer-oriented product that is due to be released this year, Vail’s absence on the Microsoft booth was disappointing, but expected. Sure, there’s a Windows Phone 7 add-in that’s being developed for Vail, but there’s no news on new hardware and OEM partnerships.

With regard to Drive Extender, Microsoft remains tight-lipped whilst they prepare the next Vail beta with the feature removed. From informal discussions here at CES (not with Microsoft, I should say) I did learn there may be third-party companies interested in developing some kind of solution to bring storage pooling back to the Vail platform, but there are no confirmed plans that I can share at the moment. But if Microsoft chooses to hide the next version of Windows Home Server away in a closet at major consumer events like CES, then you would have to question the commercial incentive for third-parties to create applications and products for that ecosystem.

One continuing trend that I did see at CES this year is the increasing focus of the consumer electronics vendors on DLNA media sharing solutions, which work as well with Windows 7 PCs and Macs as they do Linux NAS boxes and other home server platforms. Samsung’s AllShare looks fantastic, if you’re happy to buy a Galaxy handset or Galaxy Tab tablet as a controller. Sony certainly look to be taking on Sonos and Logitech with their new HomeShare product range, and perhaps at the top of the heap for media enthusiasts, LG’s Plex-based platform delivers a very rich experience for streaming movies, TV programmes, music and photos. With regard to the storage vendors, Iomega TV with Boxee looks like a fantastic prospect and the work the company have done on their console design has made their user experience much warmer and friendlier. I was also impressed by LG’s new S1T1 home server, with on the fly transcoding of content to PC/Mac, DLNA TV, tablet and mobile handset. Media streaming solutions demonstrated this week from Logitech, Netgear, Western Digital and Buffalo too look like excellent prospects for enjoying big-screen entertainment.

The need for consumer-friendly, centralised storage for media is more relevant than ever, and the products that are being built to take advantage of new media sharing and streaming experiences are increasing dramatically in quality. Windows Home Server can still have a role to play in that category, but certainly here at the show, Microsoft showed little desire to participate.

CES 2011: Steve Ballmer’s Keynote Address

News

CES

ces 2011

keynote

microsodt

steve ballmer

The Steve Ballmer keynote address at CES 2011, where we heard about Window Phone 7, Xbox 360/Kinect, Microsoft Tablet, and a real short glimpse at the next version of Windows.

<p style="float:right;
