WHS Drobo Status is for Windows Home Server 2011 owners who back up their shared folders to a Drobo. The add-in shows how much space you have available on your Drobo, and the status of the drives.

Note: You must have the Drobo Dashboard software installed on your Windows Home Server for the add-in to work. You can find the right version from the Drobo website.

For the Record is an advanced rule-based scheduling system to record your favorite TV programs on your computer, with support for various media centre applications including DVB Dream, GB-PVR and MediaPortal TV Server.

For those using For the Record on their home server in conjunction with power management add-in LightsOut, the latter needs to know when recordings have been scheduled, so Windows Home Server can be woken up in time to start the recording.

This add-in creates tasks in Lights-Out based on schedule information from For The Record. This is useful for people who want WHS to wake up whenever For The Record has scheduled a recording.

Add-in Update: Drive Bender v2.1.2

Drive Bender presents multiple hard drives as a single pool of data storage, either as a logical drive letter, or a network shared drive. Drive Bender is able to do this with internal and USB (or any externally) connected hard drives, of any size.

Drive Bender also provides the user with the ability to seamless expand their storage pool by simply adding a new drive. Adding a new drive expands the pool by the size of the new drive. Drive Bender also offers a merge capability, allowing users to take a drive that contains content, and merge that drive (and content) into the pool.

To further ensure data safety, Drive Bender can automatically duplicate any file added to a Drive Bender pool. File duplication is determined at the folder level and occurs on the fly as data is being written to the pool.

The first maintenance release has just been issued by developer Division M. New in this version:

- Bug fix: The WHS addin could crash the dashboard if the local users is not the user that it was installed under.
- Bug fix: Under some specific circumstances, file renaming could fail or cause access denied errors.
- Bug fix: The Drive Bender Manager and WHS addin now update correctly if the state of a drive within the pool changes.
- Bug fix: The license messaging system now reports any licensing issue much better.
- Update: The add and remove mount points feature has been improved to provide better feedback.

AWIECO WakeOnLAN has been updated to v1.1.3. WakeOnLAN is a free add-in for Windows Home Server 2011 and Small Business Server 2011 Essentials that can remotely turn on a computer. It enables the Server to start up every computer attached to your network. You can also power off a computer from the Launchpad.

WakeOnLAN Pro is an enhanced version of the free add-in which is available at a cost of €9,95 (WHS 2011) or €19,95 (SBS 2011 Essentials)

Add-in Update: Snoop-de-dupe v1.50

A new version of Snoop-de-dupe hit the web over the weekend. The file management add-in for Windows Home Server v1 and 2011 scans and de-duplicates files stored on your server.

New in this version:

Enhanced database design for better handling of larger file sets (100,000+ files)
Allow automatic exclude of files based on file size (minimum and maximum)
Allow automatic exclude of files based on file attributes (hidden, system, read-only)
Added a progress dialog to the Batch Resolve dialog to better communicate operation status during lengthy deletion and hard-link operations
Added a new “reclaimed data” field to easily view the amount (file count and file size) of estimated reclaimed data (from delete and hard-link operations) directly within the Add-in

Enhancements:

Limit the number of duplicate files in the main duplicate list to 20. Larger duplicate lists could make the Dashboard appear frozen for some time

Add-in Update: My Movies for Windows Home Server 2011 v2.10 PR4

Binnerup Consulting has this week released the next pre-release beta of My Movies for Windows Home Server 2011.

My Movies for Windows Home Server provides automated disc copying of Audio CD’s and movies from internal or USB attached optical drives, adding meta-data to copied discs, or movies and TV programmes already stored on the server by monitoring your shared folders.

Audio CD’s can be copied to various formats such as Flac, MP3, MP3hd and WMA, or a combination of two formats if you prefer a high quality lossless file as well as a small lossy file for mobile usage. Meta-data is downloaded from multiple internet data providers, and embedded into the files with both data and cover art, allowing you to browse and play the files from units such as Squeezeboxes, Media Centers, mobile devices and similar.

Movies, (DVD, Blu-ray and HD-DVD’s) are copied to ISO or file format, or DVD’s to MPEG-2 format for Media Center extenders. Meta-data is downloaded and added from My Movies own Web service, and stored in the folders, making the data available for Media Center’s DVD/Movie library, XBMC, TViX, Netgear EVA, Dune, Popcorn Hour and other units or movie front-ends.

Movies already stored on your Windows Home Server are identified by the monitoring feature, and meta-data is added automatically. Downloaded meta-data is in the same way as when copying a disc made available to many different playback units and movie front-ends.

Should you need to edit the meta-data, the data for Audio CD’s can be edited directly from the server console, while movie data can be edited by connecting a My Movies Client, or changed to other titles if needed.

v2.10 PR4 brings the following changes:

Fix: If a backup database failed, it could be left in an invalid state, which could give issues.
Fix: Transcoder service had wrong version set, which could cause problems with upgrades.
Fix: Conversion jobs with error kept looping for ever.
Fix: Video Converter High Profile changed for support of files larger than 4GB.
Fix: Filenames from conversion xml profiles was not always used in naming of output file.
Fix: Mismatch in comparison when searching for shares on HWS2011 server.
Fix: Definition cleanup at start of general service is now in own thread.
Fix: Video converter service did not set to not autostart when you asked it to.

If you’re running Windows Home Server 2011, then you may like to take a look at power management add-in Lights-Out – the latest release of the app was released today.

Lights-Out allows you to place your server in sleep or hibernation mode at scheduled times. The add-in monitors a variety of sources for activity, and if they are powered on, your server will wake to ensure it’s available.

Serviio for Windows Home Server allows the management and optional installation of the open-source DLNA media server, Serviio.

Serviio is a free DLNA media server. It allows you to stream your media files (music, video or images) to any DLNA-certified renderer device (e.g. a TV set, Bluray player, games console) on your home network.

Serviio uses a priority-based metadata extraction so that you can choose what metadata should describe your media files (e.g. audio track name, DVD cover, TV series and episodes names, etc.). These include metadata embedded into the media files themselves, locally stored metadata files (images, Swisscenter, XBMC) and metadata that can be obtained online. With this powerful tool you will be able to build your Serviio media library easily and effectively.

Serviio works with any DLNA compliant device (TV, Playstation 3, etc.) and some other (XBox 360). It supports profiles for particular devices so that it can be tuned to maximise the device’s potential and/or minimize lack of media format playback support (via transcoding).

New from the developers of Integrity Checker is Snoop-de-dupe, a file de-duplication add-in for Windows Home Server v1.

The idea is a simple one – Snoop-de-dupe monitors folders you select on your home server and will detect and display a list duplicate files in the Windows Home Server Console.
