InteliSAN have released a new, expanded edition of their LDisk iSCSI add-in for Windows Home Server 2011, Windows Small Business Server Essentials 2011 and Windows Storage Server 2008 R2 Essentials. Called LDisk-D, the new version of the add-in has been released in response to user requests from server owners needing non-English language support alongside the ability to use any existing Windows partition for iSCSI storage.

Here’s an interesting statistic. A few weeks ago we ran a poll asking Windows Home Server 2011 users what, if any, additional storage management software they were running on their servers. The idea was to primarily see how the new storage pooling apps for the platform were competing – but I was surprised to see just how many users felt the need to protect and pool their data with additional storage management support.

Windows Home Server 2011 Step by Step – Part 15: Backing Up Your Server

Using Windows Home Server 2011 to protect your data is a great first step in the quest for peace of mind, but it is only a first step. You can back up your data from your PCs to the server, great, but what happens if the server itself fails? Or is stolen? With regard to server failure, that can be mitigated in part by the ability to backup the server itself (which we’ll cover separately later). Otherwise, keeping a backup off-site, at a family member, friend’s house or even the office is a great idea. As ever, WHS 2011 makes it easy.
