You’ve been able to get your Roku streaming on for quite some time in North America, but after a long wait, the company’s media players will be shipping in Europe at the end of the month.

Western Digital Now Supporting BBC iPlayer and Netflix on UK WDTV Live
Following this week’s launch of Netflix in the UK and Ireland, Western Digital today announced support for the service alongside the BBC’s iPlayer video on demand service via a software update for the WDTV Live digital media player.

Netflix Launches £5.99 per Month Video Streaming in the UK
US Video Streaming giant Netflix today took the wraps off it’s long-rumoured service for the UK and Ireland, offering instant and unlimited access to a wide range of entertainment titles for £5.99/6.99 EUR per month. The launch, backed by a 1 month free trial puts the company in head to head competition with Amazon’s LoveFilm service, which itself announced 2m subscribers this morning.

US communications giant Verizon last week released a YouTube video exploring the history of its set top box hardware development over the last six years. The company’s innovation gurus detail the advances made in moving to a greener, Energy Star compliant design for efficiency, but also signalled a future move to a distribution model powered by a media server in the home.
