Having trailed its arrival at CES 2012, Samsung looks set to unveil it Evolution Kit for higher-end, 2012 model Smart TVs at CES 2013. The kit, which plugs into the back of your TV, combines new hardware components to match your old set with Samsung's latest and greatest.
Whilst Samsung have not been shy in discussing the Smart Evolution Kit throughout last year – indeed, it's been touted in marketing materials and in-store displays through 2012 as a key feature of the company's 7000, 8000 and 9000 series TVs – very few details have been released so far on the actual kit. That looks set to change in Las Vegas next week as Samsung showcases the hardware at the CES trade show.
The Smart Evolution Kit combines an enhanced CPU, GPU and RAM improving processing and response speeds on the TV and unlocking access to Samsung's 2013 Smart Hub – new kits will be released in subsequent years to allow owners to upgrade their TVs each year.
If it means users can get access to new features without the need to replace their entire TVs, we're all for it, although there's no word as yet on price. Let's hope it also keeps the TV's profile nice and slim. Stay tuned for more.
