If you've been longing to ditch that Sky subscription, or maybe you've already dropped it and have that still dish clinging to your home then you'll most definitely want to take a look at Humax's new set top box. The Freesat+ HDR-1000S is the company's latest release, combining support for the UK's Freesat HD service, DVR features (courtesy of a 500GB or 1TB hard drive), and an Ethernet port. The latter opens up options for network media streaming and support for services such as BBC iPlayer and ITV Player.
Freesat support means that if you have an existing satellite dish, you can plug the set top box right in and receive a wide range of free to air TV channels, including HD broadcasts. Also on board is the all new Free Time EPG which cleverly allows you to roll back the guide to watch TV shows you would have ordinarily missed.
Twin tuners, SD broadcast upscaling, HDMI and twin USB support (for connecting hard drives) are all thrown in for good measure in a great looking package that's available now from £279.95. Expect to find the Humax Freesat+ HDR-1000S at John Lewis, Currys and PC World now.
Our review hardware landed a short time ago, so stay tuned (ho ho) for our Hands On Review.
