Lights-Out, the power management add-in for Windows Home Server v1 and WHS 2011, will soon support Apple Mac OS X clients!

The developer, Martin Rothschink, has been in touch this week to request the help of the WGS community in beta testing Mac support. The new Lights-Out Agent for Mac OS X implements a similar feature set to the Windows based Lights-Out client:

  • Automatic server wake-up via WOL
  • Manual server wake-up via WOL
  • Manual server wake-up via Internet
  • Manual server standby
  • Configuration of client monitoring
  • Supports WHS v1 and 2011
Not implemented are the wake-up and backup features (doesn’t makes much sense with Time Machine backup). Reminder: Automatic wake-up and standby are configured and enabled in the WHS Console/Dashboard.
Requirements (Windows Home Server v1)

  • Windows Home Server v1
  • Lights-Out 1.5.2 for WHS v1 (a licensed edition is required!)
  • Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard or 10.7 Lion (10.5 Leopard may work but has not been tested)
Requirements (Windows Home Server 2011)
  • Windows Home Server 2011
  • WHS Connector Installation on each Mac
  • Lights-Out 1.5.2 for WHS 2011 (a licensed edition is required!)
  • Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard or 10.7 Lion (10.5 Leopard may work but has not been tested)
