Save $100 on the HP ProLiant MicroServer with Free Windows Home Server 2011 (Ends Tomorrow)

If you’re in the US, you may well have been enviously eyeing up the recent cashback deal that HP have been offering to prospective ProLiant MicroServer owners in Europe.

The good news is that Newegg are offering a big discount this weekend on just that model. Save $100 on the HP ProLiant MicroServer N40L – $249.99, rather than the usual $349.99. Check the small print, and you’ll see that a copy of Windows Home Server 2011 is being thrown in for free. Looks like a great deal!

Very strange, as of 1:00 AM EST this morning, Newegg did not even carry the N40L.  Yet a mere 10-11 hours later they have this sale.  All in all, this is a decent deal. Plus there is a price guarantee.

Evidently the N40L was on sale at the HP website for a short period for $275.  But it quickly went out of stock in a matter of hours.  This is better though.

Unfortunately, both Newegg and Amazon are Out of Stock on it now…

Just like the majority of black Friday hot deals.  It makes you wonder how many they actually had.  If HP can’t even provide them on a promotional basis, how can anybody else?

I don’t really know much about the 2011 home server boxes as I still run a V1 HP. Horsepower-wise how does this machine rank? Will I be able to stream/tranpose video, run playon on it without it breaking a sweat? or will it need hardware upgrades? How hard are these boxes to upgrade compared to the original boxes (which of course weren’t designed with upgradeability in mind, I have done a mem upgrade on my V1 box).

They’re reasonably low powered. Realtime transcoding and streaming – no. Standard streaming, yes.

Has anyone else had their order from newegg canceled?  I placed an order for a few almost immediately after I got the email and it was canceled later that night.  No reason in the email for the cancellation either.  Pretty pathetic on newegg.com’s part if you ask me.

I actually got an email from camelegg.com that the price went down at like 5am, but didn’t order it till around 1pm EST on saturday.  Mine shipped sunday morning.

I ordered mine from Newegg and got shipping notifacation yesterday. Looks like I got lucky and found it at the right time.

With the high price of Hard drives my New microserver has done a good job of being a foot stool the last week or so, but I came a across this deal from microcenter.com,  they have an OEM Seagate greendrive for $110, sounds to good to be true, I stopped by my local branch yesterday, and while they have not made it out the floor yet, and associate was able to produce one from the “back room”.  I know WD seems to have more fan boys out there, but you can’t argue with the price.  Anyway FYI.  the part number is ST2000DL003 – OEM, reviews on newegg are good, also as rule, I always purchase my HDD’s local, and no way I would trust a shipper this time of year to be gentle with ones package.  UPS throw a package on my porch from 10 feet away yesterday, glad it wasn’t breakable.
