Whilst 2011 hasn’t seen the kind of network media player frenzy we may have been expecting following CES in January, Sony are still keen to drive easy ways to connect your TV to your local network and beyond.
On October, we’ll see the all new SMP-N200 – not the first 3D capable media streamer on the market (Popcorn Hour grabbed that plaudit earlier in the year), but the Japanese CE giant are certainly excited by the option to stream HD and 3D programming to compatible TVs – be it through the local network over DLNA, or via Sony’s own online entertainment network.
An onboard web browser and integrated Facebook and Twitter apps with let you browse and bore the world with unoriginal commentary on what you’re watching (sorry, that should read “connect with family, friends and followers around major televisual events”) in real-time.
Network connectivity is provided via Wi-Fi or Ethernet, and a local USB connection is also available for good measure. The player can be controlled with apps for Sony’s new Android tablet range, an Android smartphone or iPhone, with ubiquitous “throwing” gestures built in to transfer content from said Sony tablet to your telly.
No pricing was revealed in today’s announcement.
