Steve Jobs Resigns as Apple CEO

The title says it all.  He is, however, not done at Apple as he moves over as the Chairman of the Board.

It does not matter whether you like Steve Jobs or abhor him, you have to wish him the best as he continues his battle with his current health problems.  I am sure that this was a tough decision for him to make in regards to the company he cofounded and led to its current position in the tech industry.

From the MSNBC source:

Steve’s extraordinary vision and leadership saved Apple and guided it to its position as the world’s most innovative and valuable technology company,” said Art Levinson, Chairman of Genentech, on behalf of Apple’s Board. “Steve has made countless contributions to Apple’s success, and he has attracted and inspired Apple’s immensely creative employees and world class executive team. In his new role as Chairman of the Board, Steve will continue to serve Apple with his unique insights, creativity and inspiration.

Steve Jobs’ letter to the Apple board of directors:

To the Apple Board of Directors and the Apple Community:

I have always said if there ever came a day when I could no longer meet my duties and expectations as Apple’s CEO, I would be the first to let you know. Unfortunately, that day has come.

I hereby resign as CEO of Apple. I would like to serve, if the Board sees fit, as Chairman of the Board, director and Apple employee.

As far as my successor goes, I strongly recommend that we execute our succession plan and name Tim Cook as CEO of Apple.

I believe Apple’s brightest and most innovative days are ahead of it. And I look forward to watching and contributing to its success in a new role.

I have made some of the best friends of my life at Apple, and I thank you all for the many years of being able to work alongside you.

About Jim Clark

Hello. I’m from the heartland of the U.S. Lots of corn and beans, although Iowa is a lot more than just farmland. It also has a few computer enthusiasts (no, not me!). I’ve been around PCs since I got my 1st PC XT aloooong time ago. WGS is one of the first sites I found centered around WHS. And the best. Every once in awhile, I do get away from the KB and enjoy time with and my wife and our 4 kids. And I do have a day job.

Although I wish Steve the best…..

You can now count the hours until the second wave of Apple implosions.

The handwriting is on the wall; just like the domination of the II series versus the PC. Jobs and the Woz left; and their market collapsed due to a lack of innovation and closed architecture in the face of an open architecture platform offering varying price points and similar useability (though not quite as clean and polished)….

Do you see a parallel in everything Apple except MP3 players? And that's truly the accessory market, not even the players anymore.

I hope they do well, but I give it 5 years until iOS is a distant 2nd, possibly 3rd to Android and maybe even WinMo. And the Mac world falls back from 6-7% to it's 2-3%.

Short your stocks today boys and girls..
