Add-in Update: Squeezebox Server v7.5.5

Squeezebox Server is the control software for Logitech’s popular Squeezebox range of audio streaming devices. The Windows Home Server v1 add-in provides a simple method for installing and managing the software from the Windows Home Server Console.

This new release provides support for the Rhapsody music service, as well as support for the forthcoming Mac OSX 10.7 (Lion) update.

Windows Home Server 2011 owners should download and install the standard Windows software via a Remote Desktop Connection.

I'm a newbie here, but loving discovering WHS2011! Can you explain what you mean by "Windows Home Server 2011 owners should download and install the standard Windows software via a Remote Desktop Connection". Is the Squeezebox Add-In available for WHS2011? If so where can I download it? Thanks.

    Hey Terry,

I’ve got a Mac OS X Lion Server and I want to put Squeezebox Server on it, but I’m not exactly sure how.

Which user it should be installed under: my Server Admin account, my personal network account, or a new local personal account on the server?

It doesn’t seem like a a good idea to be importing files and running apps on an Admin level account – what if some .mp3 file turns out to be is a virus…

On the other hand, the network accounts don’t support running apps (do they?)…

And a local personal account wouldn’t be accessible from the network – only by sitting at the machine or using VNC? Seems like it would be harder getting music imported into that account.

Really seems like SqueezeBox Server should be a Service on the Server, not an actual

Then do I have to keep that user logged into the server all the time for SqueezeBox to work – for that music library to appear available to my SqueezeBox device?

    Thanks…

    ASDL

      Hi!

Haven’t tried Squeezebox Server on the Mac, actually, just Windows (where I do use the admin account) – that’s one to investigate…. Anyone else have any experience with it on OS X Server?
