Windows Phone 7 Connector for Windows Home Server 2011 and Windows SBS 2011 Essentials Released

Microsoft today announced the full release of their Windows Phone 7 Connector for Windows Home Server 2011 and Windows SBS 2011 Essentials.

As previewed a couple of weeks ago the add-in, whose official monicker is the “Windows Server Solutions Phone Connector for [insert OS SKU name]” enables you to control aspects of your home or small business server directly via your Windows Phone handset. Which is handy for those people sporting both Microsoft server and mobile phone.

Microsoft’s SBS blog has the announcement – expect to see the Windows Home Server blog offer a similar post shortly:

The Phone connector requires both a server sided add-in which you can download from http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=214671 , and a Windows Phone 7 Application which can be downloaded through the market place on your phone or via your PC when you have your phone linked to the Zune client via http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=214673&clcid=0×409.

Wow, Microsoft releases something first on Windows Phone 7! Pigs are flying!!! :)

  • derausgewanderte

yep, just showed up right after reading this in marketplace as an update to the beta I had installed.
    thanks

  • derausgewanderte

odd my WHS11 addin reads v1.0.0.0. The download link for the updated addin says:
    Version: 1.1 Date Published: 7/12/2011
when I install that, it still reads 1.0.0.0 in the addin tab on the server

The wording specifically says mp3 streaming, is this really restricted to streaming mp3's, no wma streaming?

Who has a Windows 7 phone?

Get it on WebOS, Android and iOS please!!

    • Soundtweaker

I have a Windows 7 Phone and plenty others will too with all the deals MS is making.
I have been using the RC of this app and when I show my friends that the music they are hearing is streaming from my home server, their jaws drop. Nothing beats your own personal cloud.

toy4x4, I am using a WP7 and I am a fan! It's therefore pointless to put a list down why. Just like your post.

I understand integrating Microsoft's own platforms first, but I think they would gain more market and mind share being ultimately platform agnostic. I think this client would integrate well into the Bing iPhone software.

I installed it yesterday as the first add-in on my new WHS 2011 install (test install). Looks great. I do have the same version problem however as 'derausgewanderte' (v1.0 instead of 1.1), although I reinstalled the app today. And also in the settings option I try to turn on life tile support but nothing happens. the button doesn't even change? Do I need Mango for this????
Further great app! and great to have in on WP7 (first!!!)

    • derausgewanderte

live tile will only change if there are alerts on your WHS11, e.g. a client wasn't backed up for over a week, a client is missing a security update etc. there is not much the icon shows, just a number of alerts….

In my case I can't even turn the button on in the settings menu, nothing changes although repeated tries and attempts to turn the button' green'. The icon in the start/home screen remains just a picture of a server, not the icon with disk space, alerts etc.
