Lenovo this week unveiled its latest range of ThinkServer hardware for small and medium size businesses, showcasing a new $499 budget server supporting Windows Small Business Server 2011 Essentials. The Intel Xeon E3-powered ThinkServer TS130 is targeted at smaller businesses without dedicated internal IT support resources, making it an ideal partner for Microsoft’s latest “hybrid-cloud” OS.
Launching the new range this this week, Andrew Jeffries, worldwide product manager for ThinkServer, commented.”The TS130 offers a wonderful first-server solution to anyone that has a tiny IT staff or has no IT staff but needs a true server solution”. The new line replaces Lenovo’s previous entry-level server, the TS200V. Alongside the new OS, Lenovo have also included Intel’s AMT 7.0 manageability solution to allow easy remote hardware support from Managed IT Support partners.
Two drive bays are available for storage with on board RAID 0/1 management options. Processor options including the aforementioned Intel Xeon E3-1200 CPU, Intel Core i3, Pentium and Celeron chips are on offer, combined with up to 16GB ECC RAM across 4 memory slots. Alternative OS options include Windows Server 2008 R2, and Windows Small Business Server 2011 Standard, plus Premium Add-on.
Compared to Acer’s recently announced AC100 MicroServer, Lenovo’s new hardware looks pretty industrial and is short on drive bays, but at $499 for the entry-level spec, it’s worth weighing up against a growing number of competitors.
