Add-in Update: Stablebit DrivePool v1.0.0.1836

StableBit DrivePool combines the individual hard drives on your server into a storage pool and offers enhanced folder duplication features for data protection.

Features:

  • Combine all your hard drives into one big storage pool (except the system drive with the OS).
  • Add and remove drives from the pool at any time without re-partitioning or manually moving folders.
  • Create duplicated folders on the storage drive pool that are protected against single drive failure. If a drive fails on which a duplicated file was stored, the contents of that file will remain readable even without the drive.
  • All your data is stored in standard NTFS files. You can always access your files even if the Windows Home Server completely crashes or this add-in can’t be used.

Build 1836 of the add-in has just been released. What’s new?

  • You shouldn’t be able to perform repair tasks on disks that are not in the pool.
  • After trying multiple notification techniques (WMI, Powershell, Direct WHS), scrapped existing notification system and rewrote it from scratch. All notification are now in real-time with no interaction from the clients. This fixes the client computer monitoring error. It can take up to 6 hrs to replicate the new settings to the client computers.
  • Do not notify about incomplete files while a disk is being removed.
  • Individual drive free space was actually the capacity.

I'm still waiting to see which drive pool add-in is recommended by the majority. As soon as that's ironed out, it's time to find some new WHS 2011 hardware too. (also no clue which one to buy yet since HP is out)

Stablebit vs Drive Bender article would be very welcome, comparing features/benefits of each and maybe a poll to see which is ahead at the moment
    Thanks

A "Guestimate" as to when these DE replacements products will finally be out of beta and RTM would be appreciated. Have had nothing but Beta releases so far, & do not want to bet my data on these products until out of Beta. Comments…
