TRENDnet to Support Simultaneous Dual-Band 450Mbps Wi-Fi Networking

You’ll be doing well if you see them in the real world, but TRENDnet’s all-new “450Mbps Concurrent Dual Band Wireless N Router”, or as it’s known to your local retailer, the TEW-692GR is said to be the first to deliver simultaneous 450Mbps network speeds on both the 2.4 GHz and 5GHz wireless bands.

Positioned for bandwidwith-hungry, media crazy homes, the new model allows flexible configuration to ensure all devices in the home have maximum throughput – utilising the 2.4 GHz band for media devices, and the 5GHz band for computers and peripherals, for example.

Like many routers in the market today, the TEW-692GR ships with Gigabit Ethernet and Wi-Fi Protected Setup for easy configuration. But remember, those quoted speeds are theoretical maximums, rather than gospel.

“All other ’450′ Dual Band routers on the market today only support 300 Mbps speeds on the 2.4 GHz band,” stated Pei Huang, President and CEO of TRENDnet. “TRENDnet continues to be the choice when building premium performance networks.”

Expect to see the new model land this month at a price of $249.99.

I own two TrendNet routers and have been nothing but rock solid stable with features and settings for even the most advanced users while sit being dead simple to setup for the novice user too.

I think that price tag is unjustified in today's market. While I like the dual band support, it is only good if you have dual band (or even just 5GHz) supporting hardware. With that said, I would be very willing to put this router up with some of the better routers released in the last year or so, but they are ~50% of the price and have the same features. Some even with dual band. So what are they offering that the others aren't? I took a look at the datasheet (V1.0R), and from what I can tell, not a lot. If you like TRENDnet UI's this is probably for you, but if your used to DD-WRT you're probably wasting a bunch of money for the same thing. Also, they don't spec the internal memory for those that … ahem … 'make the most' of their NAT Table. For a product aimed at people that know what they want, I'm surprised not to see that!

The first company that makes a nice streaming/sharing router that works out-of-the-box seamlessly with internet/TV providers hardware shenanigans (Verizon Fios, et. al.) will have my vote and my greenbacks.
