StableBit DrivePool

Expertise Level: Standard

StableBit DrivePool combines the individual hard drives on your server into a storage pool and offers enhanced folder duplication features for data protection.

Features:
  • Combine all your hard drives into one big storage pool (except the system drive with the OS).
  • Add and remove drives from the pool at any time without re-partitioning or manually moving folders.
  • Create duplicated folders on the storage drive pool that are protected against single drive failure. If a drive fails on which a duplicated file was stored, the contents of that file will remain readable even without the drive.
  • All your data is stored in standard NTFS files. You can always access your files even if the Windows Home Server completely crashes or this add-in can’t be used.

Just wondering… I'm running WHS 2011 and have several extra drives already full of data (mostly multi media for streaming). I'm wanting to add these drives to my server, preferably in a pool (for sharing/streaming), but WHS 11 alone won't let me incorporate them without formatting for data use or backup. Will the StableBit add-in allow me to add drives without losing data on them?

    Thanks!

Works like a charm keep up the good work

I can't get this add-in to uninstall. It keeps reporting that I have a drive missing from the pool, which I can not correct. I don't have any drives in the pool, so I don't know why it's reporting this. I followed all the steps for a manual un-install (WHS 2011 reports it can not uninstall the add-in using regular methods), and everything was gone except the folder in the C:ProgramData folder. I can't re-install, or get WHS to recognize that this add-in has been blown away and stop reporting the error.

I tried the FlexRAID briefly, but it wasn’t the “WHS” version yet. Then I tried Drive Bender and it not only was confusing but it hosed the server storage service so I got rid of that also. I then installed Stablebit Drive Pool and not only is it working well so far, it was very easy to use and installed as an “add-in”. DB was very confusing and I hope Drive Pool continues to work and improve. A lot of posters are more knowledgeable than the average joe. I am not an IT professional and that is why I loved WHS when it first came out. I turned a lot of my friends onto it and converted their older computers into WHS boxes. Now they are pissed that they can’t upgrade and I feel bad for turning them onto it. I have switched to all Mac except for WHS and have been following the Lion server with interest. If Apple does something like WHS, then I will be TOTAL Mac. That said, Drive Pool is the best and EASIEST for a “average joe” such as myself so far.
