Add-in: TV4Home

Alexander Köplinger has just announced a new add-in for WHS v1 and WHS 2011 titled TV4Home which is designed to allow you to record and stream TV from either version of WHS.  TV4Home accomplishes this by installing MediaPortal TV Server on your WHS.

From Alexander:

The purpose of this Add-In is to install MediaPortal TV Server on WHS, basically adding better support for TV tuner cards to WHSv1 and WHS2011.

Some of the features:

  • Proper integration into WHS Console and Vail Dashboard
  • Easy setup wizard that guides you through the installation
  • Integrates MediaPortal TV Server Configuration app into the Console/Dashboard
  • Web-Interface with Single-Sign-On using the WHS Remote Access Website, enables you to schedule recordings

TV4Home integrates into the WHS v1 Console

or the WHS2011 Dashboard

which provides you an overview of the current TV Server status.

From the Web-Interface

you can schedule recordings by using the EPG (Electronic Program Guide) from any Internet-connected PC.  Simply visit your WHS Remote Access Website and click on the TV4Home link.

It is nice to see some some new TV support being added to WHS v1 *and* WHS 2011.  If you are a MediaPortal and WHS fan, this might just be the add-in you are looking for.

About Jim Clark

Hello. I’m from the heartland of the U.S. Lots of corn and beans, although Iowa is a lot more than just farmland. It also has a few computer enthusiasts (no, not me!). I’ve been around PCs since I got my 1st PC XT aloooong time ago. WGS is one of the first sites I found centered around WHS. And the best. Every once in awhile, I do get away from the KB and enjoy time with and my wife and our 4 kids. And I do have a day job.

I got this installed on my EX490. My setup is a bit different, I used an existing SQL 2005 install since I have MyMoves running. This needed a bit more after install tweaking with permission to work, thanks to the developer to get this going for me ;-)

I have a HDHomeRun. The tuners showed up but I was not able to get the channel lineup visable in the addin, running a Media Portal scan did not find any channels. The channels do show up in the HD HomeRun app. This is more of an issue with Media Portal and not a failure on the addin itself.

I'll be trying this one on my Vail test system. Looks like a good way to record all the wife's tv shows. I think she adds a new one every day. =/ I didn't bother checkin out the web site yet… how many tuners does it support?
