LG Brings Magic Motion to Their Smart TVs

We last checked out LG’s range of Smart TV’s back in August at IFA 2010, where the company previewed its new NetCast platform, powered by Plex. At CES this week, LG will unveil its latest range of connected TVs with the company seeking to differentiate from their competitors on ease of use. There’s no fancy QWERTY keyboard remotes here – just their new Magic Motion remote control which you’ll wave in the air to select from one of four options on the Smart TV’s dashboard – TV Live, Premium Content, TV Apps and Launcher Bar.

Gone are the overt references to Plex, but the company are boasting a new Smart Share feature that streams content from computers, NAS drives and home servers, as well as Media Link which automatically downloads metadata for your media including cover art and plot synopses. Whether those features are still based on Plex or not we’ll find out later in the week.

LG’s Smart TV features will be available on the forthcoming LK530, LV3700, LV5500, LW5600, LW6500, LW7700, LW9500, LW9700, PZ750 and PZ950 LED, LCD and Plasma HDTVs. Check out our video of the features in action from IFA earlier this year:

Without a qwerty keyboard, the “smart” features are practically unusable.  I’m not sure who thought using a keyboard to access the internet was just too “complicated”, but the Magic Motion thing is the only flaw in an otherwise fine tv, but it’s a major flaw.
