A Hands On Update: The Amulet Remote

Add-in: WHS Phone v1.0.7

WHS Phone, an add-in which allows you to manage Windows Home Server via a Windows Phone 7 handset is now available in the Windows Phone 7 Marketplace. As previously reported, the add-in enables file browsing, music streaming and photo viewing and allow access to certain management functions on the home server.

Add-in: Server Transfer Manager for Windows Home Server Vail

Whilst we wait to see what shape the next Windows Home Server Vail beta will be in without Drive Extender, hopefully the announcements of the last two weeks haven’t entirely killed development of add-ins for the platform. Coming early next year will be Server Transfer Manager by Christof Rakowski, a follow up to his popular WHS Download Manager for WHS v1.

HP Pulls Out of the Windows Home Server Market, Leaves Vail Out in the Cold

HP today announced an immediate withdrawal from the Windows Home Server market, citing a strategic realignment caused by the company’s recent acquisition of Palm, and focus on WebOS device development in 2011. The company will not support Microsoft’s next-generation home server platform, whilst plans are yet to be announced for the support of Microsoft’s forthcoming small business server SKUs.
