About Jim Clark

Hello. I’m from the heartland of the U.S. Lots of corn and beans, although Iowa is a lot more than just farmland. It also has a few computer enthusiasts (no, not me!). I’ve been around PCs since I got my 1st PC XT aloooong time ago. WGS is one of the first sites I found centered around WHS. And the best. Every once in awhile, I do get away from the KB and enjoy time with and my wife and our 4 kids. And I do have a day job.

Now this is interesting – Windows Home Server that knows how to play nice with Domain Networks. I can see some useful niches for that.
    As an example:
Departmental level machine backups…. Machine died? Wheel in a new one, perform a WHS client recovery, off you go – Downtime maybe an hour.
I'll bet the licensing cost for a copy of Breckenridge compares very favourably with 25 seats on say ARCServe.
You likely wouldn't even need dedicated hardware (apart from diskspace) – Run it as a VM on one of the Company Hyper-V/VMware Servers, add a disk to hold the backups and you've got your departmental PCs covered.
Note this scenario ISN'T meant to cover critical data backups (eMails, Finance, etc), it just needs to cover the "B*ll*x!! My PC's died" situation.
