We’re very close to finishing our Mac Mini Media Center project, and its time to open up Windows Media Center itself and get it configured for watching Live and Recorded TV, Videos, Photos, Music and a whole lot more. Following today’s walkthrough, you’ll have a fully operational Media Center installation – subsequent parts of this series will focus on enhancing that installation with additional features, improved user interface and more. Once again, here’s a run down of the project:
- Get the Mac Mini Up and Running (with OSX)
- Configure Boot Camp to Allow Dual Booting With Windows 7
- Install Windows 7
- Installing and Configuring Codecs
- Install and Configure the Windows Media Center Remote Control
- Connect and Configure our TV Tuners
- Set up Windows Media Center
- Install the Media Center Connector
- Install and Configure Media Center Master
- Install and Configure Media Browser
- Install and Configure TunerFree MCE
Without further ado, let’s get started!
1. Using Your Media Center Remote, Push the Green Button
We set up the remote control in Part 5 of the series, and now’s your chance to use it! Hit the green button, and Media Center will open with a slightly annoying startup fanfare.
Scroll down to Continue, press Okay and in the screen that follows, select Custom.
Press Next on the subsequent information screen…
…and decide whether you wish to help improve Windows Media Center.
2. Select Enhanced Playback Preferences
You’ll be asked now whether you’re happy for Media Center to download information (for example, the TV Guide listings) to improve your experience of using the application. Select Yes and Continue, then Next on the confirmation screen that follows.
3. Select Optional Setup Components
You’ll now be presented with a list of options for additional areas to set up. Select Configure tuners, TV Signal and Guide and we’ll sort out Live TV.
4. Confirm Your Region
Your region should be automatically populated from your main Windows settings – confirm the selection (or amend if it’s incorrect) and press Next.
