Hands On: AVerMedia AVerTV Express HD DVR

Introduction

Some time ago, I was offered the chance to review a HD video capture card from AVerMedia.  At first, I thought perhaps not, then I saw two things about the product that perked my interest:

  • Express Card
  • Capture Game Video

Why would that get my interest?  Well, first, We Got Served is all about Connecting Your Digital World.  Games are most definitely a part of that world, even though Terry and I do not discuss games that much (or at all).  But I do have one boy who:

  • has a laptop, hence an Express Card port
  • is an Xbox 360 game fanatic.

He told me once that at one time, he was the #7 ranked Call of Duty 2 player in the world.  That does not mean much to me, but it does sound impressive.  I thought he might want to capture a bit of his gameplay for YouTube videos, which finally brings me back to the star of today’s review, the AVerMedia AVerTV Express HD DVR.

The AVerMedia AVerTV Express HD DVR allows users to watch and record High Definition video content directly to their Laptop via Component inputs.  For the amateur video producer in you, is this the device you need to round out your video production arsenal?

About Jim Clark

Hello. I’m from the heartland of the U.S. Lots of corn and beans, although Iowa is a lot more than just farmland. It also has a few computer enthusiasts (no, not me!). I’ve been around PCs since I got my 1st PC XT aloooong time ago. WGS is one of the first sites I found centered around WHS. And the best. Every once in awhile, I do get away from the KB and enjoy time with and my wife and our 4 kids. And I do have a day job.

Is there still lag when connected to the game console whilst not recording and just viewing?
