Introduction
Over the past few years, I have dealt with many a drive bay. From my single-bay Kingwin KF-1000-BK 3.5″ Internal hot swap rack (which I still use) to the monstrous 24-bay Norco RPC-4224 case. I’ve also dealt with several Icy Dock modules of various configurations.
Of all of the bays I have dealt with, I *think* I have found a new favorite. The Icy Dock MB973SP-B.
It is not perfect, but it has many features that I personally look for in a module such as this. And it is the right size for my current needs.
But what I like for in a feature set may not be your cup of tea, so it is time to check out the latest backplane module in the Icy Dock lineup.
What’s In The Box?
Before I show you the current review item, the following set of pictures provides you an insight into what happens when your shipping company plays football (or soccer) with your shipment (see this article)
and when they do what they are supposed to do.
The previous picture and following two pictures
provide an excellent tour of what you will find inside.
Inside, you will find a multi-lingual User Manual, a bag of screws (for mounting the enclosure and additional fan screws), and the module itself.
The backside showing the power input connections, fan, SATA connections, and cables for front hook-up of external USB 2.0 and eSATA drives.
Finally, a few more shots up front showing off the latch mechanism and front panel features.
