News reaches us from Sweden of a brand new Linux-powered home server from Excito. The succinctly named B3 is a single drive, small footprint server for home users, small businesses and workgroups. Its relatively humble spec consists of a 1.2GHz ARM processor, 512MB RAM with 2 Gigabit Ethernet sockets, integrated 802.11n Wi-Fi, two USB 2,0 ports and a single eSATA for storage expansion.
With a maximum power consumption of just 13W, the B3 can be configured with a choice of 500GB, 1TB or 2TB drives or a 40GB SSD for a little extra speed. It can serve as a wireless router and firewall on the network and offers a range of additional tricks including use as a file and print server, media streamer (with Firefly and Squeezebox Server apps on board), client backup device, web server with Apache, MySQL and PHP as well as a download manager for torrent, HTTP and FTP downloads.
The server is managed via a pretty stylish looking web management console which provides easy access to all of the key features.
The B3 is pre-ordering now at a base price (500GB storage, no Wi-Fi) of EUR 279, up to EUR 471 for the top of the range model with SSD and Wi-Fi. The B3 ships globally for 15 Euros and you can expect it to commence in mid October.
