McAfee May Return to Protect Windows Home Server from Malware

Last week, we reported that McAfee had withdrawn support for Windows Home Server, with their Total Protection Service reaching end of life. That product has now been superceded by McAfee SaaS Endpoint Protection, which is currently not available for Windows Home Server – however, WGS reader Kris Butler reports that there may well be refreshed support for the platform on the way. McAfee told him:

We are currently still in the beginning stage of evaluating the feasibility of supporting SaaS (Formerly known as Total Protection Service) long term for current version of Windows Home Server.

However, one thing I can assure you is that McAfee are continuing making enhancements to the SaaS product for Windows Home Server, and going forward, SaaS is planned to be the product for Windows Home Server.

So, it looks as if McAfee may well return to the Windows Home Server platform – whether that’s for WHS v1, Vail or both versions of the product remains to be seen.
