HP Unveils $199 Wireless TV Connect for HD Streaming

It looks a lot more cumbersome than a humble HDMI cable, but HP today took the wraps off its Wireless TV Connect HD Streaming solution, which wirelessly pumps 1080P video from any HDMI–equipped notebook to your TV. Plug in dual HDMI and USB cables to the notebook, and hook the receiver on to the back of the screen, then cable up the receiver to your TV and you’re good to go.

$199 buys you the transmitter and receiver, and with no software required, you should be up and streaming in no time. Given the size of these things, and HP’s rather shaky reputation in TV-related accessories (whatever happened to the HP MediaSmart Connect and TV?), you’re going to have to really want to stream wireless video to invest in these.

Still, with less than 1ms lag time, the tech sounds pretty cool, so if you’re tempted, expect to see the Wireless TV Connect land in October.

It could be nice if multiple receivers could be bought!

I could see this being useful for businesses — they could replace their projectors and white screens with a TV and one of these without having to run a 20' hdmi cable across the room.

What tech is this using, WHDI ?

With the new Apple TV's price set at $99 this device is now dead.

How's that? Apple TV can connect a PC to a monitor or projector in wireless?
… or maybe you thought this HP was another media-box-something?

If this was built into the Laptop and/or TV…thats one thing. But I just don't see myself needing this in our home.

Any time I see wireless and 1080p guaranteed I flinch.

Yes, why not, but I'd prefer the Intel Wireless Display (Widi) which – providing you are using a recent Intel based laptop – will give you the same stuff for less and without the second laptop connected adapter since it uses the internal Wi-Fi card. check it out http://www.intel.com/consumer/products/technology

That would require a new laptop and a new tv that supports it.
