Intel Announce $7.7 Billion Acquisition of McAfee

In a surprise move, processor giant Intel today announced plans to acquire security vendor McAfee Inc. The deal, valued at $7.7 Billion or $48 per share in cash, is subject to McAfee shareholder and regulatory approval, but has been sanctioned by the boards of both companies.

Add-in: Remote Launcher for Windows Home Server Vail and Windows Server Aurora

Following the release in June of the first add-in for Windows Home Server Vail, AWIECO WakeOnLan, the company have today released their second add-in for the platform, AWIECO RemoteLauncher. The add-in, which provides advanced administration features within the Server Dashboard, is available for both Vail Preview Refresh and Windows Server Aurora.

View Windows Home Server’s Shared Files and Folders on an iPad

We’ve previously covered how to stream video from Windows Home Server to the iPad using Air Video but what about shared folder access? If you’re using an iPad for work, it would be great to be able to access files stored in Windows Home Server’s shared folders, but there’s no way of achieving this without a little work. Fortunately, we have the answer which involves a long forgotten Windows Home Server add-in and an app for Apple’s iPad. Synology DSM 3.0 Beta Goes Live

Last Thursday, I reported that Synology was looking for Beta testers for their next version of DiskStation Manager.  There was a delay in the release of this Beta but Synology is now happy to report that the Beta has gone live.
