F-Secure Withdraw Home Server Security 2009 AV Suite

I have to admit, this announcement passed me by, but I was made aware today that F-Secure has withdrawn their Home Server Security 2009 product, and announced an End of Life date of March 11th 2011 for support. The announcement, made earlier in the year, states:

End of Sales and End of Life Announcement for F-Secure Home Server Security 2009

Dear Customer,

F-Secure announces the End of Sales for F-Secure Home Server Security 2009. The End of Sales date for the product is March 15th 2010. After this date, the product will no longer be available for purchase or renewal from our partners or from our web sites.

This also means that F-Secure will no longer provide solutions for Windows Home Server operating system.

We will continue to support our existing licensed customers.

F-Secure also announces the End of Life date for F-Secure Home Server Security 2009. The End of Life date for the product is March 15th, 2011. After this date, F-Secure will no longer provide support for the product.

Best Regards,
F-Secure Corporation

The reasons for the withdrawal are not made clear, but the consequences are – if you’re using F-Secure Home Server Security it’s time to look for a new AV solution.

Ok so is there a mature Anti virus program for WHS?
F-secure and Avast have pulled out and
    Is Clam ready?

  • Dave_Marchant

Avast haven't pulled out from WHS – the product is still selling on the web site with up to 3 years support. The issue with Avast was dropping the bundle of Server and PC products – http://www.avast.com/en-gb/windows-home-server

And they were not updating the product to the latest version, ver5 i think.
So they dropped the bundle which makes it more expensive to buy and they were not going to update the product.

I cant find anywhere on the website say they have upgraded it the the version 5.

      • Dave_Marchant

They haven't upgrade ANY of their server products from 4.8 to 5.0 yet. That isn't to say they won't at some point. I agree it is a shame they dropped the bundle, but I am happily using the 4.8 Home Server version with the free version 5.0 PC option and it integrates well.

I tried the F-Secure product on a trial basis.
I had some BIG problems with it.
I wrote to them about it and got NO answer what-so-ever!
I wrote to the magazine that provided the trial version about my problem contacting F-Secure.
They told me that they also had problems getting technical support and/or answers from them.
The magazine DID NOT try to contact them for me as I had hoped.

With that kind of product support it is NO WONDER that their customer numbers were so low that they would drop it. It was only a mattter of time.

If every company would work like that, NOBODY would be using computers AT ALL.

Microsoft anti virus is working fine for me. Give it a try. It is in beta but is working great.

ESET's NOD32 4.0 works and is supported with WHS. Although, there is no WHS Console add-in, which might be a "showstopper" for some people.
