Lenovo IdeaCentre D400 Reaches End of Life (Updated)

In discussions with Lenovo regarding an upcoming feature, the company informed us that the IdeaCentre D400 home server is now no longer being sold by the company. (See below for an update).

The IdeaCentre D400 was launched last September and showcased at CES this year in Las Vegas. Despite quirky styling, the product was very similar to Acer’s 4-bay Aspire easyStore Home Server, but with a lower specification and higher price was bound to find it difficult to compete in the market. As Jim summarised in our hands-on review last October,

Lenovo enters the Windows Home Server market with an attractive machine, nice features, but with a “me too” attitude.  A little on the pricey side, but it is nice to see more players in the WHS arena.

Acer have continued to update their product line globally with the H341 and H342 models released this summer. At this point, Lenovo have not announced a replacement for the IdeaCentre D400.

It’s likely that the product may still be found at online retailers as stock sells through, so keep your eyes peeled for a bargain.

Update (30/7/10): Lenovo have followed up with us to say they do have one D400 SKU that is still for sale, the D400 – 30131BU. That model can be found at Lenovo.com. Meanwhile, the similarly specified D400 – 30131DU is on sale at Amazon.com with a $192 discount applied. Confused? Me too. I’ve asked for clarification on the difference between the two SKUs.
