Introducing the World’s First Windows Home Server Vail Add-in: AWIECO WakeOnLAN

Less that eight weeks after the public preview of Windows Home Server Vail was released, and the first add-in for the platform has been released! AWIECO WakeOnLAN is a free add-in which enables the Home Server to start up every computer attached to your network.

The add-in shows a list of all available and connected computers within your network and allows you to start them up from any location on network or over the internet.

Installation

Given it’s the first time most of us have installed an add-in on Windows Home Server Vail, here’s how to do it – it’s a little different than v1.

1. Download the latest WakeOnLAN add-in on your client or Windows Home Server “Vail”. The latest version is posted at the category “Products”.

2. Execute the downloaded installation file “AWIECO_WakeOnLan.wssx”.

3. Press the “Install” button.

4. Enter administrator password.

5. Read the license agreement. If you agree, press “Accept” to proceed the installation.

6. Click on “Install the Add-in”.

7. After installation you will get a message that AWIECO WakeOnLAN is successfully installed on your system.

    Nice! to bad I can't test it as my Powerlines prevents it (they don't support WOL – constantly waking systems up while trying to get into standby).
