TRENDnet Wireless N Router: Anyone Up For 450Mbps Transmission Rates?

Wireless N just seems to get better and better. 150Mbps?  270?  300?  Now we have 450Mbps in the new TRENDnet TEW-691GR router.

Not only does the TEW-691GR have 450Mbps of Wi-Fi, but 1Gbps LAN ports *and* WAN port.  I guess it about time for those with FIOS networks to get something that will allow future generations of FIOS networks to reach it’s full potential!

TRENDnet First to Market 450Mbps Wireless N Gigabit Router Redefines Wireless N Performance

TEW 691GR TRENDnet Wireless N Router: Anyone Up For 450Mbps Transmission Rates?TORRANCE, Calif. –June 7, 2010–TRENDnet, a best-in-class wired and wireless networking hardware brand, today announces the availability of the first to market 450Mbps Wireless N Gigabit Router, model TEW-691GR. Designed for extreme performance and unparalleled quality of service, this router provides users with the ultimate wireless networking experience.

Three external antennas broadcast on the 2.4GHz spectrum.  Three spatial streams per antenna produce a record 450Mbps theoretical wireless throughput. Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) antenna technology boosts wireless coverage, signal strength, and throughput speed. One Gigabit Wide Area Network port and four Gigabit Local Area Network ports offer exceptional wired throughput performance.

The latest in wireless encryption and a secure firewall protect your digital network. Router setup is fast and intuitive. WMM® Quality of Service (QoS) technology prioritizes gaming, Internet calls, and video streams. A convenient on/off power button protects the router when powering down.

Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS) integrates other WPS supported wireless adapters at the touch of a button. Gone are the days of entering complicated encryption codes; simply press the WPS button on the TEW-691GR, and then press the WPS button on a compatible wireless adapter, confirm you would like to connect and the devices automatically exchange information and connect. The router is compatible with IEEE 802.11n and backward compatible with IEEE 802.11g/b/a compliant devices.

“TRENDnet’s ability to launch this ground breaking 450Mbps product ahead of other brands says a lot about our recent growth,” stated Pei Huang, President and CEO of TRENDnet. “We are ecstatic to set a new performance threshold in the consumer wireless revolution. If you are looking for the ultimate in wireless performance, take a look at TRENDnet’s 450Mbps Wireless N Gigabit Router.”

The 450Mbps Wireless N Gigabit Router, model TEW-691GR, will be available from online and retail partners shortly.

The MSRP for the TEW-691GR is U.S. $199.00.

Now all we need are some 450Mbps Wi-Fi adapters, Linux support, and I’m ready to chuck powerline and MoCA and go this route.  Assuming one can get adequate range.  I would love to get my hands on this router and a matching adapter to check out both range and real-world transfer rates!

About Jim Clark

Hello. I’m from the heartland of the U.S. Lots of corn and beans, although Iowa is a lot more than just farmland. It also has a few computer enthusiasts (no, not me!). I’ve been around PCs since I got my 1st PC XT aloooong time ago. WGS is one of the first sites I found centered around WHS. And the best. Every once in awhile, I do get away from the KB and enjoy time with and my wife and our 4 kids. And I do have a day job.

My parents have FiOS and oddly enough their ONT only supports 10/100 Mbps…

It would be interesting to see the real world results. My dlink "300 mbps" router only does "34mbps" in the real world.

Jim, if this router is anything like my Trendnet TEW633(?) it is rock solid. Using it with 300Mbps wireless cards gives me 270/300 all the time. Easy and extensive setup option and best of all never needs a reboot. I’ve had it for over a year now and the only time it is rebooted is for the two firmware updates that have been applied. When it comes time to update my office network Trendnet will be my choice of hardware.

Oh and WHS v1 an Vail both can auto configure the router. No hassles there.

The 450mbps is a nice pipe dream. But until someone actually produces a wireless adapter to support 450mbps, what's the point? Even with a 300N Router & Adapter, you'll only see 150mbps transmission rates.
