TwonkyManager 2.0 and TwonkyServer 6.0 Released

PacketVideo have announced updates to two applications, TwonkyManager 2.0 and TwonkyServer 6.0. The latest version of the software allows the aggregation of media located across multiple PCs and media servers throughout the home into one cohesive view, as well as a new Auto Copy feature which ensures that digital media files are copied to the master media library as soon as a new mobile device enters the home.

Twonky’s media software has now shipped on more than 3 million devices to date, according to the company, more than any other connected home offering on the market.

TwonkyManager’s new content aggregation feature provides a single view of all media available on multiple PCs and home servers. You can choose to include all computers on the network, or cherry pick which computers should be included or excluded. Duplicate content (media stored on multiple PCs) will be hidden from view, so you see a single view of all of your media.

The new Auto Copy feature will copy media from mobile devices and media servers to a master library, without intervention from the user. Again, you can select the devices included or excluded – a great feature for moving music, video and photos from your mobile phone to your media PC.

“TwonkyManager 2.0 and TwonkyServer 6.0 bring a number of exciting firsts to the connected home sector, building upon the innovative features we added to the product earlier this year including chat, guest playlist and ratings functionality, said Rick Schwartz, senior product manager, PV. “The new content aggregation and auto copy features stand alone in making media sharing as easy as possible for our users with mobile devices or media on more than one PC. We feel ease of use is the single most important factor in continuing to bring media sharing to mainstream consumers, and we’ve been able to achieve this without sacrificing more advanced options for hardcore early adopters.

Other new features include the ability to use TwonkyManager with Windows Home Server and other network attached storage devices, eliminating the need for a local server on the PC. Video thumbnails have been added to TwonkyManager’s video library, and improvements have been made to the software’s file scanning performance.

TwonkyManager 2.0 with TwonkyServer 6.0 is available now at $19.99 at www.twonky.com. TwonkyServer 6.0 can also be purchased separately.
