As is customary at WGS, when we meet a new manufacturer, we give them the opportunity to introduce themselves:

We want to offer products and solutions to our customers with which they can benefit from the possibilities offered by the digital world.
We strive to deliver maximum support to our users and resellers.
The product groups we focus on are networking, computer accessories and connectivity

Our Vision
Technology sets pace for changing human’s everyday habits and customs. PDA’s, mobile phones and computers are becoming more and more popular and we can not imagine to live without them anymore. Through networks we are getting more and more connected. Unfortunately, more products means more complexity. Eminent strives to create solutions to make the use of technological products simple. The solutions we offer are created by looking not only at WHAT a product can do, but above all at HOW people make use of it.

Designed for daily use!
Our product developers have a clear goal when they develop a product. Each product must be easy to use and easy to install. Therefore we take a close look at how our customers use the products in their daily environment. We simplify software installation by making use of our unique installation wizards. Most of our networking products are supported by a unique installation wizard in different languages. Our manuals are written by using a step by step method. We do not only care about what a product can do, but also how you will use it.
No matter how much time our technicians invest in simplifying the interface of our products, some products are so complex that one simply cannot do without a well-written user manual. The manuals Eminent encloses with its products are written by technicians. More importantly: they are verified by consumers! This gives us a certain amount of confidence; we are quite sure our manuals are accessible on practically any level, whether you are an experienced system administrator or a regular home-user! You will be taken through a set of procedures step-by-step so that you are allowed to benefit from your most recent asset. All technical terms you may encounter are explained in a special glossary adopted in the manuals suited for networking and communication accessories. Also check the service section on our website.

A different kind of service!
We too realize that a manual may not provide answers to all questions. Sometimes you will be left with questions you would really like to see answered. The Eminent helpdesk will provide the helping hand. Our call-centre employees have followed intensive training to become extremely familiar will all ins and outs concerning all Eminent products. We arrange our customer support in house. Our call-centre can be contacted by telephone but of course also by e-mail.

We care about our looks
Not only do our products have to meet our quality standards, they also have to look good. We believe that it is very important to create nice looking packaging. Therefore all packaging designs are developed by our creative team. You can see at a glance to which product group an Eminent product belongs by looking at the colour of the packaging. The way our packaging is designed helps you to choose the right products. We also care about Point of Sale materials. In this way we promote Eminent in stores.

Specifications

The EM7080 is powered by Realtek’s award-winning RTD1073DD media processor that we’ve seen in a variety of devices including ASUS’ O!Play media streamers, Iomega’s ScreenPlay TV Link Director amongst others, which is a good choice for the current generation of receivers. Network speeds are restricted by the selection of standard 10/100 Ethernet over a Gigabit connection, but that should still be fine for high definition video. Full specs as follows:

Processor:Realtek RTD1073DD
Video Output:HDMI, Composite Video, Y/Pb/Pr
Audio:Optical (TOSlink) and stereo
Hard disk:Internal 3.5 inch SATA (NTFS/FAT32)
Streaming media:Video and audio
LAN port:100Mbps
USB ports:2x host and 1x client
eSATA ports:1 (Front)
Picture formats:HD JPEG, BMP, GIF, TIF, PNG
Video codecs:WMVHD, AVCHD, H.264, VC-1, MPEG1/2/3/4, MKV, M2TS, TS, ISO, AVI, MOV and others
Audio codecs:DTS, AC3, MP2, MP3, OGG Vorbis, WMA Std, PCM, LPCM, MS-ADPCM, LC-AAC, HE-AAC, COOK, RA-lossless, FLAC

Video enthusiasts will be pleased to see ISO support included – both DVD and Blu-ray ISOs can be played on the device. Note that whilst DVD ISO will play with the menu, Blu-ray ISO menus will not be displayed. It’s a strong specification – let’s see how it performs.

What’s in the Box?

The EM7080 arrives with every cable you could possibly need to connect to any TV, with HDMI, component, composite and USB cables all thrown in. Sadly no Ethernet cable, which would have completed the set (and is a strange omission given the completeness of the package). Great to see a detailed manual included too, with instructions in Dutch, English, French, Spanish, Italian and German. If Eminent had included an Ethernet, and we had such a competition, they would have won our “What’s in the Box” most complete package award for 2010. But sadly they didn’t, and we don’t.

In the box, you get:

  • EM7080 Network Media Player
  • Remote Control
  • TOSLINK Optical Audio Cable
  • HDMI Cable
  • Component Video Cable
  • Composite Video/Stereo Audio Cable
  • USB Cable
  • Power Cable and Adaptor
  • Manual

Eminent also sent us over their 300N Wireless-N USB adaptor to check out, one of the smallest wireless adaptors we’ve seen. Is that a Wi-Fi Protected Setup button too? Neat!

I'd like to see just one of these HTPC appliance makers put out a product that's got an interface that doesn't look like something that was developed to run on MS-DOS on a CGA screen c. 1984.

    Note to Eminent:
Do yourself a favour, and search "XBMC" on YouTube. You'll see what a real HTPC interface should look like.
