Boasting speeds of 110 MB/s, LaCie this week announced the launch of their Rugged USB 3.0, a scratch and drop resistant (to a height of 2.2 meters) hard drive.
The drive is backwards compatible with all USB ports, but to benefit from the highest speeds, you should connect the drive to a USB 3.0 PCIe card, many of which are starting to come to market. These offer blistering speeds compared to USB 2.0 and are ideal for file transfer and storage jobs.
“We are pleased to add USB 3.0, the fastest interface available, to our most recognized mobile solution,” said Anne-Sophie Marchand, Consumer Product Manager. “Now the most demanding customers can get the best performance out of a 2.5″ hard drive – making the Rugged USB 3.0 the only hard drive necessary for work in the field.”
The LaCie Rugged USB 3.0 will start at $149.99 for a 500GB drive, plus 10GB of Online Storage for a year from Wuala.
