I woke up pretty quickly and quickest way was to reinstall WHS, a pain, then put on ESET AV using my SS4 license details, worked OK. Interested to see some are now getting along fine with SS4. When I feel brave and awake may give it another go.

I also have a 3 user license for SS4 but before I came across this post tried to install SS4 on my WHS1 and locked it out, dimwhit I was. I've been happily using Eset for a number of years [currently SS4] and am thinking about putting my home network on WHS. I think I'm currently licensed for 3 computers [they had a special 3 for the price of 2 deal a couple years ago], but it's not clear here whether Eset is recommending SS4 for WHS?

So what are the others doing that's getting them in trouble with SS4? Windows Home Server 1 never had an issue with it locking out the console. You need to have the fire wall set to interactive mode and go through the routine of running the console and remote login from the server and a client and you will have no issues.

I been running Eset Smart Security 4 on both WHSv1 and WHSv2. The only way I was able to get connectivity back to my server was by pulling the drive from my HP, attaching it to another computer, deleting the install file for ESS, putting it back in my server, firing up the server again, then fixing the registry, etc. Being a particularly dim bulb, I tried it a couple of times with different install options and all of them have the same end result. Learn from my fail.

Speaking from experience and as the reason why the headless comment is in the knowledgebase, it is NOT worth the effort of testing out ESS on a headless unit. I have had similar issues with Avast. I think this is an area that still needs more work from the vendors. As it is WHS specific, I am not sure how many of them will put the work in.

I don't think this is unique to NOD32. When nod32 finds a virus (or suspect file) on the WHS, I usually end up with a file conflict error as it seem to delete one of the duplicates.
