PerfectDisk 11 Windows Home Server Released This Week

Raxco are set to release PerfectDisk 11 Windows Home Server this week, which is the latest version of the company’s disk defragmentation software for the platform. A host of new features are included in this year’s release, alongside a suite of new product bundles for WHS and your home computers.

Let’s run through the new features first:

New easy-to-use engine customization lets files, applications and directory data be placed according to your unique requirements or preferences for improved system performance and faster file access.

New Exclusive BlockViewer

You can now right click on the Drive Map to view the contents of a block, visually identify and eliminate fragmentation with ease.

Faster analyze

You can analyze a drive up to several hundred percent faster depending on your drive, number of files and file sizes.

New and improved Space Reports (Pro and Server versions only)

Comprehensive charts and graphs give you important information on your files and drives.

Enhanced large drive support

New algorithms ensure faster defrags for even the largest drives; and as always — no extra cost, no matter how large the drive.

Enhanced Solid State Drive (SSD) support

Automatic detection of SSDs ensures these drives can be optimized for the best possible performance boost.

Enhanced StealthPatrol automatic background defrag

Optimizes drives faster and uses fewer resources than other defragmenters.

Enhanced VSS (Volume Shadow Copy) support

Support VSS threshold configuration lets you set a unique threshold for VSS data

Enhanced user interface

Improved graphics and layout make PerfectDisk easier to use than ever before.

Enhanced Selected Files Defrag

You can now select up to 100 files to defrag to save time and resources if you don’t wish to defrag the entire drive; great for heavily used files.

Raxco also tipped us about a number of new value bundles for the Windows Home Server edition of PerfectDisk 11, which will ensure you’re all set for great running drives not just on your home server, but on all computers in the home. PerfectDisk 11 Windows Home Server will be available for $39.99, which will cover defragging your home server. If you want to look after other computers, you’ll be able to opt for PerfectDisk 11 Windows Home Server + 1 Pro license (home server plus one PC) at $49.99, a +3 Pro pack for $69.99 and for all of your PCs, go large with the PerfectDisk 11 Family Bundle which covers Windows Home Server and all of your PCs for $99.99.

The update is set to be released on Tuesday, with previous owners receiving theirs automatically in advance of this weeks launch. We’ve got something fun planned with Raxco to celebrate the launch later in the week – and it doesn’t involve giving away free software licenses! Watch this space…

I have had the homeserver perfect disk10 site licance for since it came out and the version 9 before this is a great product and everyone should have it however I contacted customer service to see if there was an upgrade path to this version and was told basicly that I would need to pay full price to upgrade so I assume there are no discounts avalible dissapointed as perfect disk is a great product and the upgrade from 9 to 10 was free so I did expect to pay for this upgrade but full price so I guess I will be skipping this for a while

  • funnystuff

Whatever. All the good stuff has already been in Diskeeper for several versions. No reason to switch. Until they one up intelliwrite, there's nothing to see here. I could care less about viewing blocks! Got better things to do with my time…lol!

    • James

Yes Diskeeper is a good product unless you have a problem and need techsupport had a copy for a pc and nomater how many installs or how many times you entered the key it would forger it and then you would hit the activation celing disk kepper support was usless and they were less than interested but yes good product if it works

    • Michel

      Wow mister Diskeeper fanaboy,

Ok you have done your sale pitch and I will made mine also by saying that Diskeeper is not better for sure and the way I see it more exepensive for me then PerfectDisk. I have check for a longtime between the two the deal breaker was 10 copy for 99 dollars and a very good program for defragementation and offline defragementation that take care of my page file. New algorithms ensure faster defrags for even the largest drives; and as always — no extra cost, no matter how large the drive I know I had to pay for that with Diskeeper before I discover PerfectDisk at no extra cost.

That you love Diskeeper is fine but how much it cost to cover 10 PC with Diskeeper and have you ever try both? I did and to be honest Perfectdisk gave me better result and it use the Windows API since at least version 9 if not earlier and it is way safer for manipulation of the data that way, now to be honest I don't know if Diskeeper do that also but not at the time I decided to go with PerfectDisk.

Now because I decided that all my PC at home are Win OS Pro version I can log in any PerfectDisk from PerfectDisk itself and do a defrag from the PerfectDisk program itself as added benefit no need of WHS console for that or remote as all Pro version permit that.

The offline is great also and take care of page file Master File Table, hibernate and paging file. I have setup an offline once a week after the clean up done every Sunday so that after the clean up done my WHS server will reboot automatically and do the offline defrag and by the same token a "refresh" WHS by having done a reboot that could prevent memory leak from some add-in or at least gave me a fresh boot snappy WHS for the rest of the week and well tidy up by the same token.

So for you it is Diskeeper but not for everyone here.

BTW talking about other I would like to mention that Avast have drop us from covering all the PC on a bundle price and to the credit of PerfectDisk they did not do that and it is worth of mentioning here for the struggling family around that that buy PC for their children and a big saving money items, if you have the upgrade protection you have a rebate from version 10 to 11 also if bought just before the release the update if is free if not you did have the benefit of using PerfectDisk during that time and have the rebate for the new version, other way to have a rebate is to get in the beta program next time also and get a further reduction to apply on the final release if offer. (Food for tough for the next time).

An very happy user here of PerfectDisk and very happy to make free publicity like you did.

For the price Perfect disk is far more cost effective for the average WHS user. Most will have at least 2 computers and many HDDs to keep maintained. Perfect disk has very flexible licensing options that far outweight any fragmentation prevention technology that diskeeper claim to have.

      • Michel

Thank you very much by supporting my statement with more fact :) ;)

I am still doing the research for the time so my 2 cents are still in my pocket. Can people elaborate about this product or any defrag for whs more. I was of the opinion that defrag a the server would be a bad idea given how WHS handles files differently. Not trying to knock anything down, just fishing for more info. Also to Michel, I get the impression that English might not be your native language and if it isn't then props to you, but I found it very hard to read what you wrote. I read over it a couple times and I'm still at a loss…you're missing words here and there and maybe it was written in haste but it makes it almost impossible for me to focus on what it is you were trying to say…other than Perfect Disk rules and Diskeeper drools.

    • http://intensedebate.com/people/urmaster urmaster

As far as I'm aware normal de-fragmentation is NOT recommended by Microsoft because of the unique way WHS handles data. For this reason I can only recommend you use a de-fragmenter certified for Windows VSS environments (ones which use the windows defrag APIs) and has been thoroughly tested with WHS. To my knowledge only two third party solutions exist, and I'm not sure if the built in solution is suitable.

Unless explicitly stated Raxco Perfect disk and Diskeeper are the only solutions I would trust with my WHS due to the way backups work.

So now with the floor level the only other things you need to factor into your decision are which one has features and price you want. For those I'll leave you with these two links:

      http://www.diskeeper.com/Diskeeper/home/purchase….

      http://www.perfectdisk.com/products/home-perfectd…

You should be able to make a pretty informed decision based on those links and some of that information.

Irony – Posting a comment pointing out the bad grammar or misspellings of someone else only to include in the comment bad grammar or misspellings yourself :) <Shaking head in disbelief >

  • Michel

You are right about my grammar and yes it is way difficult for me to express myself in English then in French.

But would that prevent me to give my opinion, obviously not because how many people around could pretend they master their own native language.

I am not going to die for PerfectDisk, I was more in disbelief that someone would attack another product without giving any counter point outside that the other product is superior when it is not.

PerfectDisk is a small corporation and can't afford the mass connect that the other major player could do with the institution, IT and SMB.

All I know that before SP1 for WHS I did try both product and PerfectDisk did solve my problem having from the get go 2TB of DATA already and after the transfer my server at that time was almost useless after all that data transfer and because I did try both product on my PC already and because of my good experience with their defragementation I decided to give it a shoot on the WHS because it was the last option left to me and it gave me back a snappy WHS functional again.

So from my own experience here and because I have built my WHS myself and owning Windows Home Server since the first RTM I could tell you without a doubt that this product is not inferior to any major player in the field of de-fragementation.

Call me a fanatic but at least I try to be honest here by saying that I just see good thing happening on both my PC and server since I use their defragementation and if you want a advise that is free also try CC Cleaner if you have some mysterious problems on your PC or sever and you will thank me and BTW this program is totally free W/O spy ware or ad ware of any sort.

  • Michel

    Hi everyone,

I would like to mention that on my server side I decided to use the Toolkit v1.1 to disable the VSS shadow file on the server side that is not part or should be part of the WHS, well at least not officialy.

Not sure if that concern other then the OEM RTM Version of WHS. But this has dramaticaly reduced my amount of fragemented files and by the same token accelerated the defragmentation of the Server.

Also I just bought the new version from version 10 to 11 as an upgrade at a cost of $50 US dollars or 99 dollars wihout upgrade path also I have a further reduction as beta tester on the already reduced price for the upgrade path so 10 PC at $50 / 10 = $5 per PC for the Pro version and also even less if you calculate the server one also :) a mere price of $4.54 and even less for me as Beta user.

Anyway do I realy need 10 to 11? = no

Should I not take 11 at $5 US dollars per PC weel? weel no obviously.

And BTW it is way faster, more efficient and yes prettier ;)

    See you

  • Tim

Does this version work with WHS 2011, or just WHS v1? This info cannot be found on the web site's info page.

    Thanks,
