$56.78 CAN, that's outragous. I was thinking $25 was a little steep. This is just an upgrade.

    • http://intensedebate.com/people/tezzer Terry Walsh

Canada only seems to have an express DHL courier option right now….

    • jadm

      25$US does NOT equal 56$CAD ! What a ripoff !!!

    • hasip

      I agree, for Canadians, it is outrageous, shows ignorance and not very well thought selling process from MSS Team either;
WHY NOT BUY AND DOWNLOAD or buy directly for FAIR FEE from HP Canada ?
Offering $25US (=~$28CAD) update + shipping for more than double ($59.62CAD), at the end total cost almost triple (~$70-$75) is outrageous. Shipping to Edmonton, Capital of Alberta, Canada is offered by HP only with FEDEX (1-3days). Why ? FEDEX has bad name here, they invented a scheme skimming even more money on delivery (for their "border agents"). There is no border fee for software – on delivery FEDEX asks additional 10-15$ for "work of their agents to declare, there is no border fee"). Use USPS, ground delivery – no skimming, double dipping etc.
Inability of HP MSS Team distribute this update efficiently and fairly in Canada and around the world forces people to bit-torrent world unnecessarily and cost HP money by their own wrongdoing.

    • Rylan

Why do Canadians pay more than DOUBLE when their currency is now on par with the US? I work for an HP reseller, and this leave a sour taste in my mouth. Yes Canadians, buy HP, but expect to be taken to the cleaners anytime you need a genuine HP part order.

      • James

I agree … I am just turning my HP Server off and just let it sit there for another year … couldn't care less as when I see how HP treating Canadians maybe the next Laptop I buy I will reconsider my choice in HP and that goes for any HP products …

  • http://twitter.com/Dieharder @Dieharder

Then it's $64.09 total to ship. I got Windows 7 for less than that.

  • Jason

Do you need a disc for each server you have (any activation, etc) or can you install the same disc on multiple servers (I have 3!)?

    • Technovore

I would like to know this as well, as having multiple Ex48x servers i wouldn't want to buy 1 disk per server.

      • J_Dandy

1 disk will cover all your servers. You already have the licenses for the server.

  • Mike Soucy

We have to pay for this update to get latest? So PP3 and 2.5.x from HP is all we'll get being a ex485 owner? So is this over and above PP3 releases (Microsoft correct?)? Is there any more information on this via link? I'll go search for it now.

    • teq

My goodness, you are being cheap! You get substantial additional functionality, so you will have to pay for it. If you don't want it, don't buy it! That's business, man.

Just look at Apple – they charge iPod Touch owners for every frickin' software upgrade they release.

      Just my 5 cents.
      teq

      • http://xkcd.com Ted

Apple sucks and so does paying $29 for this upgrade.

      • Akin Koksal

Well, we just don't want to be RAPED…. $25 for USA, $64 for Canada??? Would you be ok with that???

  • Ryan

    Just ordered mine!

  • http://www.paraesthesia.com Travis Illig

Anyone know if you can replace your system drive at the same time you do this upgrade? They made it a "server recovery" anyway, so I'm curious if there's a reason you'd have to recover it over the top of an existing install (like if it somehow detects there was an install already) or if I could take the opportunity to replace that drive like I've been meaning to.

    • Technovore

I would like to know this as well as ive been meaning to replace that disk with a 2 TB HDD but just never got around to it. If it is a server recover then why not kill 2 birds with 1 stone.

    • pete

Problem is the system drive is partitioned and the other partition is part of the storage pool.
I guess you'd have to "eject" the other partition through the console first, and if that works, then power down and go through the server recovery process with the upgrade disc…

      • http://intensedebate.com/people/urmaster urmaster

You cannot remove the system disk like that since the other partition will always be the local D drive. Best bet is to completely backup the server to an external disk and use drive balancer.

  • GatsbyAssassin

    What about Australia??

    • Warwick

I second that, not sure what us Aussies do with out imported MSS’s??

  • j_oz

Many mediasmart owners will be torrent users (nature of the meadiasmart beast). Expect all ISOs on torrent very soon.

    • http://numbersusa.com Ted

Well that's a good thing to encourage. Just because there is a nature to the beast doesn't mean you should feed it.

      • http://www.pedroinnecco.com pmdci

I ordered my disks from best2serve as an UK client. I went to check now and their site is down. As many others here, not getting the software the nice way will mean getting the software the hard way.

    • http://lifehacker.com steve

I'll give it one more week and then I may be more inclined to join your evil little tea party.

  • Andy

Yeh, where do Aussies get this!?

  • Borje

What about the Swedes, when to we in Sweden get this update?

  • Maciek

Terry, thanks for the detailed links. I am still missing a crucial piece of information. If I order mine in Germany, where I live, will I get German, English or multilingual version? Does anybody know anything about that? Funny enough, I want an English version since my German is still quite basic.

BTW, I find this upgrade story managed extremely poorly by HP. If not for this site, we all would be still in the dark…

  • Johan
  • Johan

Sorry, wrong link. Try this instead, I ordered yesterday:

  • Michael

I would be interested in understanding how I can replace my system drive during this upgrade. I only have one MediaSmart server, so I cannot test it. Does anyone have multiple servers so they can test the process and let us know the step? I would think the trickest part is making sure you do not loose the non system data that is on the sytem drive.

  • rmcypress

Ordered a set for my EX47x and my EX48x…. EX475 crashed about a month ago, and I am still in process of removing share data. Lst the Backup Database, but most of the clients have changed in some major fashion (removed, or upgraded OS). Once I get share data recovered, 47x will be sold and 485 will become new home server. ;)

  • http://www.wegotserved.com Bodog (WGS)

Any news on how/if Australian owners can obtain the upgrade?

  • http://intensedebate.com/people/tezzer Terry Walsh

Have asked HP's PR agency for clarification on some of the points raised… watch this space.

    • http://www.wegotserved.com Bodog (WGS)

Thanks Terry – I've opted to buy it through a mutual friend in the US (he's a kind soul!) – you know my insatiable apetite for technology – I need to get my hands on it asap :D
It works out a lot cheaper than buying it from Canada – thats for real! and if HP charge Australian's anything like the Canadian rate they won't get many takers I suspect

      • http://www.wegotserved.com Bodog (WGS)

Terry – did they answer your question at all? – Can you add it to the next batch of questions to HP and see if we can get an answer?
There are workarounds for ordering from overseas but it would be good if Aussies and Kiwis could order locally (not holding my breath on that happening though)

  • James

Placed my order for ex470 via HP US site on 02/24. Paid for 1 day shipping. It still has not shipped, and every time I have tried to call for a status I get transferred to about 4 different departments before I get "accidentally disconnected." Is there any sort of support for these orders, or did I just give HP $43 to ignore me?

  • Bill

@James I was told the ship date would be March 5. Take that for what it may be worth.

I tied to order two one for an EX 47x and one for an EX 48x, One gong to a different address from the billing address. The one with the different addresses could not be done on the WEB site, and I guess, as I tried, not by phone. They couldn't find an order page.

  • http://www.wegotserved.com Bodog (WGS)

Re ordering from countries where the EX47x or EX48x series were not released eg Australia – I think there could be a big problem there. I tried ordering today on the US site and it will only ship to the US or Canada – and even if you want to ship it to a US address it wont let you pay with a non US credit card. So I can't see how you order from overseas…you need to get a friend in one of the authorised countries to order it for you by the look of it! I'd be interesting in hearing if anyone else from a non release country has better luck ordering it.

    • http://www.pedroinnecco.com pmdci

Well, simply put I think that 10 GBP is a fair price to pay for the software. But HP should expect heavy piracy and illegal trading of the software if they put up such constrains for users trying to obtain the software through legal means.

  • Bill

will there be any new updates for the lx195? ever? id like to be able to do a full backup/recovery of my macbook. thanks.

    • http://intensedebate.com/people/tezzer Terry Walsh

No, the LX is not receiving the update.

  • Rick

Well the HP bull**** does not end. I have ordered the 3.0 upgrade CDs (today 27 Feb 2010) and HP's estimated date of delivery is 23 Mar 2010 !!!???

  • Kim Nielsen

What about denmark – where can we order

  • Q_Division

Terry (or anyone else), I don't suppose HP have indicated when the UK one might be back up?

  • Carlos

Ok, I manged to order about 6 days ago, so now I propose the next thread: when are these copies going to be shipped? ;)

  • Jerz

Exactly… when ARE they going to ship…. makes me feel like an idiot for paying extra for next day when I don't even have a ship date yet.

    • greg

everyone who paid extra for express shipping should cancel then reorder under ground shipping

  • http://www.best2serve.com Best2Serve

    @Terry Walsh
Germany, "Currently Up, But Price Errors Preventing Order" <– I've tried placing an order and everything seems to work. What kind of price error do/did you see?

    @Q_Division
I work for Best2Serve. We're working hard with our partners to make sure that products are available as soon as possible. Unfortunately we don't have an ETA on products that are not yet available at this time.

      Hi there,

I'm having a pretty poor experience ordering these disks in Italy from the Best to serve website. It shows a price of 0.00 and will not process the order.

Any chance you could help. I have spoken numerous times to CCare.

      Thanks, James

  • Alan

Well I managed to order the OK disks in the short window last week that the link to Best2serve actually worked – despite HP's statement in todays headline article that they have tested the links and they work that is just not true – it is still the case that if you choose the (nearly) correct OS of Server 2003 you get nothing but choosing a desktop OS you are given a link to Best2serve but the URL just does not work. Now my order shows as accepted but there is no sign of any progress towards actually shipping. I suspect Best2serve have ttaken down the page until they get the product from HP. So overall it looks like HP have made a false start just to sort of meet the promised date during February.

    Alan

    • Alan

That of course should read UK disks!!

  • Jason

So has anyone managed to order their copy from the UK site yet? Everytime I click it I just get unable to respond to your request.. kind of sucky.

  • Ryan

I will be willing to be a host address for shipping to the US and getting these disks out to non-shippable addresses. Assuming there is no illegality about shipping to Austrailia or other non native mediasmart countries. Email me if this would be of any service.

    ryan_mda@yahoo.com

  • Ryan

I talked to HP this morning and after 10 calls and 2 mishandled transfers, they informed me that they were not even ready to ship. It looks like they didn't want to issue another delay notice so they took pre-orders and didn't tell anyone the product was not ready yet.

A way to cover their a$$ for another missed release date and a stain in the face of all mediasmart fans.

  • OZ Worldwide

I too can host a US address, BUT, unlike Ryan (no insult), I have an Australian address also.
I go back and forth between the two countries.
If you would like the discs from the US, please feel free to email me at, ozworldwide.ebay (at) gmail (dot) com
please put the subject about mediasmart discs.

and, yes, there is a period in the first part of that email address.

I regularly ship worldwide in my business, so if you are in another country (northern europe, etc), i would be happy to send them out.
I would ask for the actual shipping cost, no more, no less, but since I get my shipping supplies for near nothing, it is only a few cents above the post office price.

feel free to look me up on ebay to get an idea of my honesty.

if you email me, and want to go ahead with this, I will send you my contact details so you feel better about me handling your product.

hopefully they'll send the discs out before the end of the year!

I live in France and Canada have purchased an HP MediaSmart Server ex485. I can not make the purchase of updating the version3. how do I do?
    thank you

  • Ollie

Hello all members i got my update disks today i am very happy.

    • Ollie

They are a bad set of disks wont read the server restore cd just my look.

  • E R

For some reason HP is not providing ordering possibility for Estonia, Europe. I am pretty pissed off. Since Estonia is member of EU and consumers are protected by the same laws in EU countries I am sure I could trigger ugly story with local consumer protection institution for unequal treating of its EU customers. I would like that HP or best2serve will contact me and solve the ordering problem here. If anyone can share disk image of original EX475 update3 recovery disk I would be realy happy of course. Email e!r!k!i!r!A!T!live.com

  • Ralph

I live in outer NW London. I have an EX485. How can I get the V3 disks????
(Only the Ex470 version of the disks is available from B2S….)

  • Brian

Just installed the new 3.0. I can no longer connect remotely, the server wont auto configure the router anymore, and the new photo software doest work when trying to load it. very disappointing so far

  • James

When Canadian and US dollar is on par why do HP want to charge Canadian's double the price as you would think they hate Canadians. I only use the thing to back up my internet images and when I upgraded to Windows 7 Pro load and behold the soft wear that came with the thing doesn't work so off to get a update only to find I have to pay to make the thing work … If there is a simple driver to make it into just a server that I can upload and download from without all that other stuff I have no need for then that's the driver I would need … maybe someone out there hacked it

    James

  • djgmog

Where can I find this order page?
