Sean Daniel has a kick-ass review of Cloudberry Backup for Windows Home Server which I definitely recommend you check out.

CloudBerry is an interesting solution to the cloud backup story. They provide the software that adds the simplicity, automation and client-side piece, while Amazon S3 provides the back-end storage…. All in all, CloudBerry provides a solid backup solution. There are very few bumps on the road, mostly imposed by AmazonS3, including the cumbersome setup process, and the actual cost of storing the data. However, don’t forget that you *can* do wonderful things with AmazonS3, such as (if your data is not encrypted, and your account is setup this way), you can send links to your data around, saving your home bandwidth for your family to see your data. And because Amazon is so huge, you know that one day, they aren’t going to up and disappear.

Here’s the update announcement:

CloudBerry Lab has released CloudBerry Backup version 1.4 — an application that allows users to backup their data online to their Amazon S3 accounts.

Disaster recovery planning is often times an afterthought that comes to light when disaster strikes. Very seldom do companies fully recover from loss of critical data which could lead to loss of business. CloudBerry Backup provides a powerful Backup and Restore product designed to leverage Amazon S3 reliable and secure online storage to make your disaster recovery plan simple, reliable, and affordable.

CloudBerry Backup is also available as a Windows Home Server (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/winfamily/windowshomeserver/default.mspx ) add-on. It integrates with the WHS console and offers scheduled backup to cloud storage, hosted on Amazon S3.

Newer version features an ability to configure backup in multiple Amazon S3 bucket. Each backup plan can be associated with its own bucket or even with its own Amazon S3 account. Besides, the users can now delete data directly from online storage.

Enhanced backup notification report contains in-depth information on backup completion. Ability to run backup service under administrative account facilitates Windows Home Server Drive Extender support announced in the previous release.

Other enhancements include that ability for more granular configuration options such as thread number and priorities. Optimized memory usage provides for less resource consumption in highly loaded environment.

CloudBerry Backup is designed to work on Windows 2000/XP/Vista/7. Command line interface allows partners and advanced computer users integrate backup and restore plans with other routines.

CloudBerry S3 Backup 1.4 for Windows costs $29.99(US) for a single-user license. Volume discounts are available. CloudBerry Backup will be offered without charge to students, educational institutions and non-profit organizations. You will continue to pay Amazon directly for their S3 charges.
