Fujitsu Respond to SCALEO Home Server Recovery Confusion

Over the weekend, we reported on an issue with Fujitsu’s Home Server Recovery disc on the 1500 and 1900 Series SCALEO. The post highlighted the confusion caused to owners when attempting to perform a server recovery. Incorrect  labelling within the restore wizard means that users are not sure whether their data will be deleted or not during the restore.

Today, Fujitsu posted the following message on their blog regarding the issue:

Recently, there’s been some discussion about the recovery of the SCALEO Home Server e.g. on www.home-server-blog.de or on wegotserved to clarify this, here are the 3 recovery versions and the 2 known issues:

  • 10600914335    DVD Server Rec. –d /FSP:550001096  (shows the error „ for FSC-PC only”)
  • 10600951197    DVD Serv.Rec.new-d /FSP:550001135   (deletes the content of the 1st HDD completely)
  • 10601017968    DVD Serv.Rec.V2 d  /FSP:550001190  (system partition can be deleted and recovered separately)

To get the latest version 10601017968 DVD Serv.Rec.V2 d  /FSP:550001190 please contact our support team here for german
*update* and here for english

So, if you’re a SCALEO owner, take a look at your Server Recovery disc and check the code. If yours is one of the first two codes listed above, then contact Fujitsu at the links above to order a new Server Recovery v2 DVD. Issue resolved!

A big thanks to BuckDanny for taking time to report on the issue, and to Fujitsu for responding quickly!

Is the 2205 Series SCALEO also affected by this?

    • BuckDanny Says:

Newer SCALEOs (2105 / 2205) are most probably not affected. Check the label on your Server Recovery DVD: if it reads "FSP: 550001190" (or higher), there should be no reason to worry. I'll ask Fujitsu for additional confirmation, though.

Wow! There's a post I didn't expect seeing on WGS when logging on today …

I'm glad my article has received some attention, and kudos to Fujitsu for their prompt reaction !
That being said, this isn't necessarily the last there is to say about this. In comments on the other blogs, I'm seeing some confusion regarding version numbers, and some reluctance from Fujitsu to actually ship the updated disks. I will post a comment on the Fujitsu blog asking for some clarifications, and report here when there is new information. Meanwhile, I will update the forum thread with the information so far.

It's really great to see WGS being so instrumental in getting this sort of issue resolved !

Fujitsu Germany is NOT shipping the new disk to me.
I received the version FSP:550001135 when I first tried to do a recovery and the original version required a user to have an FSC computer, as stated above.
When I contacted Fujitsu-Siemens then they DID send me the newest one at the time.
That was back at the end for 2008 or beginning of 2009.
The guy I have contact with now tells me that I already received a recover disk, meaning the FSP:550001135, and refuses to send me a new FSP:550001190 one. And he does NOT care what it says on their web-site.
