Add-In Review: AdminiMe

Conclusions and Cost

This add-in is a bit like one of those kitchen sink add-ins.  It has a bit of everything needed to administrate a Windows Home Server.  AdminiMe provides a lot of information about your WHS, whether that be hardware or software/OS related.  It provides several administrative links, by default, as well as the ability to add other shortcuts.

Can it do more?  Sure!  As I mentioned earlier, it would be really nice to add the SMART information that Home Server SMART provides and incorporate it into this program.  Perhaps Sam Wood (Of Windows Home Server Disk Manager fame) and Nick could collaborate and incorporate the Wireframe aspect into AdminiMe.  Or not!

The one item that does need to be there is a Test button for the Communication Setting screen to verify one has entered in their smtp parameters correctly

Is this a must have add-in?  I really do not think a “must-have” add-in exists, but this is definitely one those add-ins that I would put in my “should have installed” lists.

About Jim Clark

Hello. I’m from the heartland of the U.S. Lots of corn and beans, although Iowa is a lot more than just farmland. It also has a few computer enthusiasts (no, not me!). I’ve been around PCs since I got my 1st PC XT aloooong time ago. WGS is one of the first sites I found centered around WHS. And the best. Every once in awhile, I do get away from the KB and enjoy time with and my wife and our 4 kids. And I do have a day job.

Not sure why, but when I had this installed is slowed my access to the server. All my movies / recorded tv was unwatchable. It seemed to cause stutter in the streaming. Not sure if this was from the addin monitoring hard drive activity or network traffic. Other then that I would love to have used / purchased this addin.

I was beta testing this a while ago. I also had the same issue but never seemed to get is resolved. If I rmember correctly, I think Nick said that it had something to do with WMI on my server. It also doesn't appeat to happen to everyone either. It's to bad because I like the add-in but the server was almost unresponsive.

I have to say that I was a bad beta tester in this respect. It did slow down my system and I never bothered reporting it. Do you have more info on the WMI problem?

        • Duane

I wish I did. I think there might be some in the private forum that was created during beta testing. Since I don't have the password anymore, I can't confirm that. I would think that you can ask Nick about it.

Super job on the review, Jim.

    VERY NICE piece of Software.
Thats the kind for information an advanced user / Admin needs to have available.
GREAT to see this ALL available in an add-in.
It is also perfectly OK to ask for a price for the FULL functionality.
This was NOT developed over night there was a lot of work put into this from the looks of it.

I have this add-in and paid for the licensed version. Really like it as I can quickly assess the performance of my WHS, important to me as my hardware is quite low powered with a custom made setup using a Via Nano 1GHz processor and 2GB of memory. Get alerts is a nice feature as well.
