Add-in Update: TwonkyMedia Server 5.1.1

TwonkyMedia have announced an update to their standalone DLNA-compliant media server for Windows Home Server, version 5.1.1.

New features include a higher performance database, Windows 7 compliance, enhanced removable media support, background transcoding, compilation directories, device-specific views and more.

If you own a HP MediaSmart Server, this add-in is not exactly the same as the one on your home server, so may not be compatible.

To download, head on over to the TwonkyMedia website.

can this be installed on top of the twonky that comes with the EX487's?

No, this is a standalone version of the product for non-HP systems. Given a lot of the MSS' media streaming features are delivered by Twonky, my advice is not to try to upgrade with the standalone add-in, unless you're happy breaking some features.

So I potentially messed something up – if I installed it correctly that is – on my EX490?

I'd say you may be the first person to try this – try out your media streaming on the network as well as remotely and let us know how you go.

I'm pretty sure that I didn't install it correctly, since I didn't to anything from the WHS console. I don't have any problems with twonkymedia now, so I think I'll leave well enough alone.

I installed it and the server console crashed a number of times, same as the last version. Never again

I have V4 Twonky on my HP MSS EX470, but If I uninstall the V4 surely I can install the V5x version ???

You can try, but bear in mind that the standalone add-in is a commercial app and requires a license key

I've just tried this out but have found the following issue:
When selecting the shares to publish, TMS for WHS will only show the "official" WHS shares, i.e. Photos, Videos, Music & Recorded TV.
I have a drive full of TV series which are NOT part of the WHS Drive Pool and are shared on "Video Library 1" – TMS for WHS DOES NOT show this share.
By contrast, I installed the "standard" Twonky Media Server and this works as I expect – i.e. I can select my non-pool share.
Can anyone comment whether this is a bug or just the way TMS for WHS is designed to work?

I installed it on my 490, and ended up doing a server recovery.
