This software is not a good deal at any price.

I have worked over and over to get this to work correctly. NO LUCK, No Support either. 1st issue, TM Server admin PHP page Blank, What good is a Media server you can't administrate? (And yes i tried everything to resolve, No email from twonky support now for 6+ Weeks), 2nd issue with this software. Even in default configuration when you add media to your shared folder the database till continue to refresh maxing out your CPU and heating up your mediasmart to unbelievable levels for days on end. The only way to resolve this is to manually go into the tab in WHS Console and click rebuild database.

This software while advanced over it's competion at Playon is an absolute turd.

Other issues, Crashing, media library corruption, connection issues to PS3(Shared folders just disappear), Remote Management page (ServerName:9000) is non exhistant half or more of the time, CPU and resource hog (dangerous levels of heat produced by maxing cpu usage for very long periods, requires full restore to defaults once a week or more.

    Just one consumers 2 cents.

Nice one Ryan for following up like a man!

  • Lee

Anyone know if I can update the one that came with my EX475 with this build or do I have to wait for HP to release the updates? Sharma?

  • Ryan

It doesn't seem that my Anomolies are such Anomolies.

  • Lee

Maybe I will take back that upgrade request then…

  • Michel

Link above for the buy it at a special price wll not work as it lead me to a blank cart with the mention you have no item in your cart.

Also there is not a FAQ were it discuss the installation on a OEM WHS and what and how to configure it, that would be nice before I drop a dollars on this?

  • ChrisFoster

Think I'm going to wait for the HP console update where it comes built in… hopefully it will work a lot better than standalone.

how is playon any better? Playon is the TURD, do you work for them or something? As far as I dislike twonky (for crappy registration, I can't install on my HP server that has a PAID twonky license? whatever) Playon was infinitely worse and unlike twonky, I hope they DIAF for all the false promises they make with their app.

    • Ryan

"how is playon any better? Playon is the TURD, do you work for them or something?"

Can you read? "This software while advanced over it's competion at Playon"

While i am a little pissed over the whole thing, I am constructively trying to resolve the issues.

Can I write? Sorry Competition – not Competion

  • Brian

also sorry to double post, but the video scraping technologies that Playon uses right now are going to get BANHAMMERED in the very near future, making your investment KIA. Really it's a scam their running. If you want my suggestion, use PS3 Media Server (even if you don't have a PS3) as in my experience it's better than tversity and miles better than anything you pay for like Payon or twonky.

To get access to the TW server config page in Internet Explorer you must log in to the server via Remote Desktop. Then open Internet Explorer in the server login terminal windows, in the address bar type http://<your servers ip adress>:9000

    Hi Ryan,

I'm one of the Product Managers for TwonkyMedia software. There are a few reasons for the problems you're seeing.

    1. The end-user version of TMS 5.1.1 that is available on Twonky Forum is not suitable to replacement for the TMS version that comes pre-installed on HP MediaSmart servers. You should wait for HP to issue a new TMS update which has been tested and confirmed to work on their hardware.

You can obtain a refund if desired for the TMS license you purchased by going here: http://www.twonkymedia.com/ContactUs.aspx

Make sure you click on the "Twonky Accounting Support" pull down next to: What would you like to contact us about? Otherwise, you'll get the wrong person and they won't be able to help you.

    2. You should not use the browser setting pages to change settings. You should be use the Settings page you see when you log in the WHS Console interface.

  • Ryan

    3. Even after you get an update from HP, it's still possible you may have problems because of the size of your media library could exceed the limits or your CPU and memory. Somes users opt to increase their memory for better performance. If that doesn't work, your only option is to reduce the size of your library, or move your library to a desktop PC with a fast CPU and lots of memory.

Sorry I don't have better news for you.

  • Ryan

I have a 2.66ghz processor and 2 gb ram? WHAT?

  • Ryan

And the final comment from Twonky.

I have a MSS as well and am sticking with 4.4 because it does everything I need. 4.4 is very mature and establish. 5.x is new and still evolving.

The promotion is still running through the end of January.
I've used Twonkyvision server for some time, and have a huge media library.
It has given me very few problems.
