On Thursday, I unveiled the QNAP TS-219P NAS device. Yesterday, I opened up the Synology DS410j NAS device. Today, I am presenting the QNAP NMP-1000.
With the NMP-1000, we take a slight detour from a traditional NAS. This little gem is designed to serve up any and all media stored on your network, or directly on the drive installed on the NMP-1000.
So, without further delay, let’s take a look at the
QNAP NMP-1000 Network Multimedia Player
As can be seen in the following picture, the NMP-1000 does not look your normal looking server, WHS or NAS.

Once past the front of box cover, the QNAP philosophy for the TS-219P would appear remain virtually identical for the NMP-1000. One side panel indicating language support for the NMP-1000

Finally, we get a bit closer to the contents, which are all packaged quite nicely. No, that is not the TS-219P pictured below!

We will have to wait a bit to find out what those last two buttons are for.

And where is the harddrive? Nicely hidden away on the side.
A simple push in and up opens the cover

and the HD caddy slides out to reveal the drive. I find it hard to believe there are any electronics inside the case based upon the following picture.
And that is that for the QNAP NMP-1000. In order to make the most of this device, I will be hooking it up to my “wife’s” LCD TV. Doh! Hopefully, all goes well in this endeavor. If I mess something up, I will be in the doghouse for… forever!
The one really cool thing about reviewing this device is that it has forced me to do something about the Internet connectivity issues I have with my HT setup, which at the moment does not exist. I broke down and purchased a powerline adapter kit. Which one? First. let’s see how well it works. About all I can tell you right now is that I have another item to review at some point. And one I had to go out and purchase myself, which leads to the question of whether I made a good choice, or not! We will see…
