We’ve had a number of our UK readers commenting that they’re struggling to find the new HP EX490 MediaSmart Server online for purchase. Amazon.co.uk plus a number of other retailers have been advertising the product, but it seems that everyone is now out of stock.
WGS contacted HP in the UK to understand what was happening out there – we were told that the initial allocation of stock sold out in the first two weeks of sale and that more units were being shipped to major distributors, all of whom have back orders in place for the product.
Looks like a great start for the product in the UK, although a frustrating one for those of you waiting to buy.

Unfortunately Amazon never stocked the EX490, I monitored the stock and it was always coming in 4 weeks.

I got one last week via Amazon UK and it arrived in 2 days!
It actually came from an Amazon reseller pcsextremeuk.

Where is the EX495, has HP underestimated European interest? Have you got any answer about the availability in europe, is it a no no for EX495 and for what reason.

I got my EX495 today. I am just loading it up now. First impressions are it is a lot quieter than my EX470. I imported mine from the States.

I ordered the Storageworks X510 (aka EX495) in the Netherlands last week. Hope it arrives within the next two weeks..

Soft Cat just over a week ago, and it arrived yesterday. This was about 2 weeks earlier than HP were suggesting

I am sure more would fly off the shelves if those people responsible for the brain-dead decision not to sell the EX495 in the UK were fired!
I have had the EX470 since it was released and would buy the EX495 in a heartbeat if only it were available.
In fact amongst my group of friends that would amount to six sales.
As it is the EX490 is not much of an upgrade to my expanded EX470 to warrant the expense.
Way to go HP…

Mine was delivered recently – £305 with the £90 discount and the additional 10% Xmas discount. Sent off for the hamper but too late for the Xmas one so it will be the 'seasonal' version. It all adds up to a superb deal.
I certainly wasn't aware that it was an employees only or a 'preferred partners' type scheme. My order wasn't questioned and my CC was debited fairly promptly without question. I can find nothing to exclude the general public from purchasing.
The EX470 is still included in the offer – go to the hamper website to find qualifying items.
