We’ve seen a lot of home server activity over the last few weeks, with the launch of the new EX490 and EX495 MediaSmart Servers and in the small business arena, the HP StorageWorks X510 Data Vault.
But what’s happening with the LX series – the “MediaSmart Mini” (officially codenamed “Boxster”) that HP released earlier in the year? Well, it looks like HP are preparing to release a new model in the range – the LX197. An unconfirmed source over at HP Australia has mentioned that two new MediaSmart models, the EX490 and LX197 would be released over there shortly.
So, that could be a slip-up, right? Easy to get model numbers wrong, I know. That was until we spotted a support page over at hp.com listing the product, which has kind of let the cat out of the bag.
No details on the new spec as yet (the product information on the site all refers to the LX195), but it certainly seems as if a new version of the Boxster is on the way. Stay tuned for more as we hear it….

I`ve always thought that HP should have 2 drives in the LX195. If they can`t fit 2 3-1/2 drives, then put in 2 2-1/2.
Also, the LX197 should be priced at $197 with 1 drive, add $60 to $80 for a second drive or let me add the second drive myself. The case is easy enough to open up.

Additional internal storage would be great via 2x HDD but Port multiplier or at least a standard eSATA port or two would be a big improvement. USB 2.0 HDD expansion only is too restrictive. USB 3.0 would be better but not really practical at this point.

HP's website shows significant rebates on LX195 … that's another indication that LX195 is on it's way out.
