Squeezebox Server 7.4 for Windows Home Server Released

After a lengthy beta period, Logitech have released the final version of their Squeezebox Server 7. 4 software, which includes full add-in support for Windows Home Server.

The add-in performs a very clean install of the Squeezebox Server software, allowing easy detection and configuration of Logitech Squeezebox devices with your home server. The add-in works very neatly with other installed media servers such as TwonkyMedia Server to ensure that they do not conflict (a common issue with installing the Squeezebox Server software manually in the past).

If you have a Squeezebox at home, then this is a must-have download – if not, it’s well worth taking a look at the product range. I have two music players at home (one in the kitchen and one in the main bedroom), both connected to the home server and synchronised to play the same tracks around the house.

Squeezebox Server features:

  • Allows playback of your music library through Logitech Squeezebox and Transporter
  • Automatically imports iTunes library and playlists (Windows and Mac), and metadata tags
  • Browse and search by title, artist, album or genre
  • Control your players, manage playlists, & even view album art from your web browser
  • Shuffle and repeat albums or songs
  • Supports multiple synchronized players
  • Supports MP3, AAC, WMA, FLAC, Ogg Vorbis, WAV and more
  • Supports MP3 & WMA Internet radio
  • Create & manage custom alarm clocks of your favourite playlist, station, or nature sounds
  • Create, save, and import .pls, .cue and .m3u playlist files
  • Displays current date and time when not playing
  • Open protocol and command line API – easy to control from other applications
  • Expandable through 3rd party plug-ins and skins
  • Cross platform Open Source software, written in Perl (GPL)
  • Listen from any computer using an MP3 software player (Winamp or iTunes)

The new version of Squeezebox Server provides the following new features:

  • Facebook – Connect to Facebook on your Squeezebox to share music recommendations with friends.
  • Flickr – View photos on your Squeezebox (Squeezebox Duet and Radio only).
  • Support Squeezebox Radio
  • Make it easier to understand and use the Squeezebox ecosystem
  • New look and new name for SqueezeNetwork
  • New look, menus, and features for Squeezebox Controller
  • Add new services
    • Facebook
    • Flickr
  • Add new features
    • New Squeezebox Server Control Panel for Windows, Squeezebox Console for Windows Home Server, and Squeezebox Preference Pane for OSX as a shortcut to common activities
    • Official support for Czech, Polish, and Russian languages
  • Fix miscellaneous bugs

The controller looks much nicer with this new version. Terry I'm not sure the release for the WHS distribution is official yet. As far as I'm aware this isn't available through the normal channels until the squeezebox CS have been trained.

But again nice release my controller is so much smoother.

The WHS distribution is not officially released but can be found here: http://downloads.slimdevices.com/SqueezeboxServer…

Some people (including me) have however problems with the WHS install, the WHS console will not run smoothly but keeps freezing :-( But the win. exec. installer have not these problems. I really like the new updated UI!!

I've been using a Transporter and a Squeezebox at my house for 2-3 years now, and I really like this product. It's great that Logictech's acquisition of Slimdevices hasn't killed off the product, but has in fact led to constant improvements of HW and SW.

Looking forward to trying this new version – the screenshots look very sleek indeed.

    Cheers,
    teq
