Add-in author Daniel Buschke has released a new add-in called Directory Watcher. Daniel was inspired by one of the entries in the recent Windows Home Server Add-in Idea Challenge ‘09.
The inspiration:
9th Place
Folder Monitoring + Notification Scheme – Adam Swift
This add-in will give the ability to set up a list of shared folders that will be monitored for file changes (adds or deletes) and will send out a notification to a list of registered users detailing the information on what has changed on the shared folders. The notification could be set up as either an email alert or perhaps an RSS feed.
The result:
How it works:
The add-in provides a configuration interface, which implements the options
- Set the folder to be monitored
- Setting file types, which are to be monitored
- Type of notification (Notification to clients, RSS feed, email)
- Reading the status of the service
- Number of days to log the events
- Care of the email data
As Daniel states: “Why there should be only the one “add-in winner”!?” I agree which also means that we all become winners as a result.
It’s been a long dry spell for WHS software and hardware news. Based upon all the things coming through the pipe, one would think Christmas is right around the corner!

Does anybody have any news on the release of the OTHER software from the Add-In Challenge '09? I'm particularly interested in the add-in that claims to be working with Windows LIve, and the sync'ing with SkyDrive in particular…

The way I understand it, only the winning idea would be released as an add-in. It is up to other add-in authors like Daniel to pick up the ball and work on one of the others, if they feel so inclined.
Not a mandatory thing, however!
