Add-in: WordPress for Windows Home Server On the Way

Following his recent release of PHP and MySQL add-ins for Windows Home Server, WHS developer Cougar is working on a WordPress implementation for the platform.

WordPress is a very popular blogging/content management system application which powers hundreds of thousands of websites around the world. Installation on Windows Home Server is complicated however, requiring the installation of PHP, MySQL, configuration of the remote website and then the installation and configuration of WordPress itself. Bleugh.

A beta version of the add-in is due to be released soon – it’ll mark a big step forward in the ability for WHS owners to create and publish their own website online, all hosted on their home server.

I’m looking forward to checking it out.

Update: It’s Released

WOW, this would be a great addition to any WHS! I would like to see it replace the current home page while still keeping the ability to log into the WHS. Once this add-in is completed, could it be adapted for use with Wordpres-mu and Joomla?

Kudos to Cougar for making these add-ins a simple affair to increase the flexibility of our WHS!

    Thanks Terry; good spot!

The Add-In seems to be ok, and i've been playing with it for a week now. It's a shame I can't setup the database in the Add-In (drawback of not knowing your root passwords :D so that will be a manual step but I'll document that. It's actually pretty easy using PhpMyAdmin and one of the reasons I included that in the MySql Installer.

@sdgenxr – thanks for the feedback. I'm going to deliver a standard WordPress install, nothing that you can't do when you install it manually (other than I choose where it installs to and how it's configured through the Add-In) and it's all automated. So 3 Add-Ins, and you get WordPress.

There is no reason you can't integrate Joomla (I believe there is a WordPress Plug-In for Joomla), I haven't looked too much into this area but …. who knows.

I know nothing about web and domains. How does this play with the domains on a home-server. Does this use your homeserver.com or can you use more than 1 domain on the WHS simultaneously .

Basically, Couger automated the step-by-step process from our wiki. See http://www.wegotserved.com/2009/05/11/host-your-o… for the manual step-by-step method.

      Automated is much nicer.

Ha thanks, I'll wait for the automated method.
I saw my weekend fly out the window on that link.

Simply, you will be able to access this through http://my.homeserver.com/blog

I've kept it like that so I don't affect the WHS sites.

    • http://intensedebate.com/people/urmaster urmaster

Ok that's great. That's a similar method to other web interfaces available for various addins/applications.

https://servername/pma gives me a login form.

I don't know the username and password.
I tried admin/administrator but that doesn't show the Privileges tab. Any help getting this configured would be greatly appreciated.

      Edit: nevermind root worked fine.

    try root
and if you never set a password leave it as blank (but change this on the first screen after you logon)

    Hello Leute,

    MfG!
