New Acer Aspire easyStore H340 Update

Looks like the Acer Aspire easyStore Home Server has been suffering with a power management issue, which has been addressed with a Japanese-only (at the moment) release of a software update for the machine.

The fix, entitled “Aspire easyStore H340 when resuming from sleep, HDD what to do if you do not have the indicator light” updates the home server’s System Monitor Service to v. 1.0.13 and from what we can see, should improve the H340’s ability to wake from sleep.

If you’re feeling Japanese or experimental, feel free to head on over to Acer.co.jp and check it out. Direct link below. Otherwise, you may wish to hang on for an English language version of the help guide.

Hmm… been having some power management issues with my H340. Keep us posted on the English version. Thanks!

  • AWende

It is multi language version Jonathan, just the website and the instructions on there are in Japanese. You can safely install this update on any language version of WHS.

After installing the update, is the H340 should be able to wake by itself when, by exemple browsing network share or by SMB ? I'm used to the automatic wake-up with D-Link DNS-323.

No, any computer wishing to wake the H340 will have to send what is called a “Magic Packet,” which is something that functions very differently than a regular network packet. That means that, if your H340 is asleep, only a computer will be able to wake it up again, as most devices such as video game consoles and media extenders don’t have the necessary software to send magic packets… yet.

I have yet to read anywhere how to back up the server. I get that it backs up computers attached, but I want all my files on the server and want to back that up. Any thoughts???
